Somehow messed up door lock, couldn't shut the door... painfully obvious solution.

So it's just another Tuesday. I go down to my car this morning in the parking garage and I must've hit the unlock button my my keyfob and then put my hand on the door handle too quickly (I have CA) because the lock mechanism messed up and was in a locked position even though the door was open. Hope that makes sense. In short: The door lock worked out somehow such that it was locked but I couldn't shut the door.

I went to close the door but got a loud clang and the door bounced back open. I looked closer and I could see the part that moves and latches on to the metal loop in the door frame to lock the door was in the locked position. I tried moving it manually, prying it, locking/unlocking the door several times, etc. Nope!

Went back up to my apartment (no signal underground on my phone to look it up there), did a Google search and found the one thing I didn't try just short of taking the door apart: Pulling on the effing door handle. YEP! That worked.

Clearly it's just one of those days/weeks, but I hope this serves as a valuable lesson should this happen to anyone else. Don't be like me, in a dazed state ignoring the obvious before you've had your coffee in the morning, haha. Have a GREAT day/week everyone!

But that's cool. Have a nice day too. Kisses

Doesn't sound like a good idea to go down on your car. Must be unpleasant.

Usually you only get the fun of experiencing this on a GM car

I would point and laugh, but I must give you props for posting this if only because someone else will eventually have the same problem and not know what to do only to search this forum and discover the embarrassingly obvious solution.

this sort of happened to me but with the gas cap/door.

I went to the gas station and opened the gas door.
Forgot to pay, so I went inside and pressed the lock button on the key.
Came back outside and finished pumping gas.
Tried to close the door and it wouldn't fully close like your car door.

Took me a minute to figure out what happened.
I felt like a real dumb dumb.

I know. Cool story huh?

That's pretty much what I thought. I also have no problem with laughing at myself in situations like this, haha.
