Spark Plug Swap to NGK 5992

Thought I would share some pictures from my spark plug change. 15K miles. Look good and the valve cover gasket isn't leaking either. Also these spark plugs aren't necessary for stock turbos. Pictures are in the order of ALL-6-5-4-3-2-1

So you went from OEM Bosch to NGK 5992? How are they running?

Were you running full boost on the stockers? You'll like the 5992's.

I was running ~16-17 IIRC on JB4 back then. I replaced the plugs about month or two before the 6262 (this thread is from Jan.).

i gapped them 0.6 mm just because it was easier.

I switched from the OEM plugs to the 5992's and like them so far. I am typically pushing about 17psi when running e85, 15 when running straight 91. I sometimes notice a bit of backfire after I changed the plugs, but I'm not sure if it's related to that or the fact that I also adjusted my wastegate at the same time I installed the new plugs (should have waited so I could isolate the plugs better). Nonetheless I love them, my misfire issues when running e85 have diminished (used to misfire at the top of 3rd, or any sudden WOT in 3rd, but may have been blame to the 20k miles I had on my OEM plugs..) I gapped them to 0.022".

Excellent, I love hi-res pics!

I am running bone stock, and replacing my plugs is coming up soon. Should I bother with the 5992 or just buy the Bosch again? I've always bought NGK on all my cars and was most satisfied. I read the horror stories on here about people putting in the 5992's and having MORE problems, but I mean they're plugs.. if you didnt gap them correctly then maybe, but really, how can they screw anything up?

If theyre gapped properly they wont cause any issues, like you said its "just" plugs. But the benefits are pretty modest on stock turbos, going a step colder really helps the upgraded turbo folks. If youre making alot of power on stockers (fbo+meth+e85 type power) then it would make some sense.

I'm on stock turbos, yet my biggest gripe about the Bosch plugs is how quickly they wear out after 20k miles or so. I'm curious to see how the 5992's I have in now will will over time. So far, they've been perfect!

Maybe irrelevant but does anyone think the presence of just one ground electrode in the NGK plug vs. three in the Bosch presents any performance inconsistencies? In some applications, I've heard of people "indexing" the plugs to account for such an asymmetry.
