Has anyone found a mini usb car charger that fits in an e92 center consol?

Hi guys, I am buying a BB music gateway and going to use the 3.5 mm jack in my 2008 e92 335xi. Obviously I want this thing to stay charged, I don't have ipod prep, so all I have in center consol is another cig lighter... anyone know of a place or kind of charger that is real small and will fit in the center consol? The wires aren't the prob, but the head of the charger is too big to close the top

Thanks for any help!

How about this right angle cigarette plug adapter. Cut the existing plug off your charger and wire this one on. Seems as if it would fit under console lid when closed...

Belkin sells one. I think I bought it at Best Buy or the Apple store.

best to use a L shaped plug where the cable comes out of the side.

I have this one which has a dual USB and also available at Best Buy for the same exact price and is the same exact size as the Belkin because I often have a passenger who also needs to charge their phone/mp3 and I just find it more convient to have two USB ports

Griffin Technology - PowerJolt Car Charger

Also, if you search on the web, you can find it for $9 versus the $24 that Best Buy wants for it.

Is that a MINI usb?

The previous one with the belkin link is micro USB... for the BB music gateway, I need a MIni USB.

All of these chargers have USB-A on them, which is standard. The other end however, can be USB-B, mini-A or B, or micro-A or B. You just have to buy the right cable.

The BB stereo gateway (that I have, not sure if they have changed since I got mine about a year ago), has mini-B, not micro.

I think the Belkin one is named micro because of it's size of the actual unit...no relationship to USB connectors.

Anyone notice noise through their AD2P streaming modules? I get an annoying chirping sound that comes from my tweeters on certain songs....it is usually triggered by heavy bass notes. It may be because my MP3s aren't normalized but I'm too lazy to convert all of them lol.

The "micro" in the belkin one is just the name of the product. They are both standard USB plugs on the cigarette lighter adapter side... you're referring to the connector in the BB music gateway. So the cable that comes with the gateway will have standard USB on one end (plugs into the belkin or whichever adapter you buy), and mini USB on the other (which plugs into the BB music gateway)

Also, the Belkin one can fit in the front section with the ash tray and you can still close the door (after disconnecting the USB cable). I find it more convenient when you need to be able to see the phone. That way you aren't closing the center console on your cable.

Bb gateway is the best solution for bt integrated cars.

There are many USB charger. Check amazon. Griffen has a dual ports, 1 with 5 amps and other 1 amp.

Thanks for the tip about the USB charger - I had exactly this problem with my TomTom Satnav - couldn't close the console lid with the satnav plugged in. After reading this thread I got the Griffin 2-port usb charger, problem solved, and I can charge my phone as well!

Thanks guys

The razorfish USB cigarette charger will work perfectly with your setup. That's what I have my bb stereo gateway connected to.

Hi guys, hoping you can help me with this question: does the bluetooth carry a superior signal to the analog minijack used in 6FL? I have 6FL, but would switch to this setup for a superior bitrate. Anybody know?

I was underimpressed with the minijack quality, but I'm skeptical of bluetooth audio quality as well. I guess it depends if you prefer analog or digital distortion? I was listening to a blackberry connected to a Mazda3 via bluetooth streaming Slacker Radio yesterday and it's not something I could stand listening to every day. Sorry, I know that's not the exact point of reference were hoping for.

USB FTW

I think I found the motherlode for USB-A to mini-b cable: http://www.usbfirewire.com/ucablecam5b.html

I haven't ordered mine yet, but plan to do so shortly.

Edit: Special thanks to *********, without his posts I'm sure I would have ordered the wrong cable.

Hey i know this is a old thread but does anyone use a 2.1 amp usb car charger? I heard those would charge a cell phone just as fast as a normal wall charger
