OBDII constant on?

What's up everyone? So I just installed a Savvy unit made by valentine. Essentially what it's supposed to do is plug into the OBDII port for direct power to the V-1 radar detector, then if the car is going below a set speed, the unit will go off at the muted noise level. I mainly got it as a direct power source for the detector, as I couldn't find a good ground for my hardwide (that wouldn't come loose).

Anyways, the Savvy is supposed to power on the detector when the ignition is on, and go off when the ignition is off, but it doesn't go off. Is the power source to the OBDII in the 335 constant? Kind of defeats the purpose of having a nice hardwired radar detector if I have to turn it on and off by hand every time I get in the car.

Also, after installing it, I'm getting a humming sound from the dash after turning the car off, with the key removed from the ignition. Sounds like a computer fan. It's right from where the NAV DVD goes, but its not the DVD. I'm sure this is related somehow? Should I just get rid of this thing and hardwire the detector again?

http://play.google.com/store/apps/de...l.torque&hl=enCan't say for certain but I use this program called Torque for Android which connects to a Bluetooth OBDII adapter and the LEDs on that adapter never go off even after I shut the car off from what I can tell... however with the car off my phone won't be able to Bluetooth pair with it

Does if go off after the car goes into deep sleep mode (like 5 minutes after the last door close, etc.)?

That's what i initially thought, but it definitely doesnt go off at all. I left the car sitting for about 45 minutes to check, didn't go off.

You should have just installed an 'add a fuse' tap in your fusebox and taken the direct wire (+) from there, and grounded the (-) under one of the appropriate screws in the same area and been done with it, at much less cost...

There are a couple RD hardwire DIY's on the forum with good instructions.

That being said, after 45 min - the car should be in 'sleep' mode for sure, however, there are apparently circuits in the BMW that are always active - hence the reason that they recommend using a battery maintainer if you don't drive the car very much...

Bumping this to see if the OP figured it out? Considering getting a Savvy myself, and am wondering the same thing.

And if the RD doesn't go off, will the draw overnight cause issues?

I found the power draw in the manual: Power Requirements: 225 mA typical standby, 425 mA maximum alarm condition
