Electric Cutouts. Positives and Negatives

I plan on adding electric cutouts next week to my 335i coupe. I currently have a JB4 and DCI as my only performance mods (Cyba air scoops also, if those even count). I like the idea of the electric cutouts mostly for the audible enhancement of the engine...not necessarily for the horsepower boost (though that would be a plus). Cutouts achieve two goals for me; loud when I want and quiet when I take a chick on a date or I am cruising with a client.

If anyone has experience or suggestions I would appreciate it. Any negatives I might not be considering? I was thinking about deleting the resonator as well (is this even necessary?)

I have formed a nice relationship with a local muffler shop and they have agreed to do the full install (wiring and welding) including the cost of the electric cutouts for $500. The cutouts alone retail around $300 so I think that I have found a good deal (please let me know if I am mistaken).

I am under CPO warranty and my service adviser (who I am also cool with) told me that he would still service my vehicle with after market parts. He found the data cable from my JB4 in the ECU compartment when I had service for VANOS issues last month(I was lazy and removed the JB4 and DCI, but left the cable). He just told me from now on if something breaks remove "Everything" before coming in.

I have now had the car with JB4 and DCI installed for about a 3 weeks and it is running smoother than ever. I had both VANOS replaced so I don't think i will run into that issue again and if I do I can always do the DIY to avoid having to remove any mods. I just don't want to destroy my turbos or any other crucial aspect of the car. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

There are some cheap parts out there. As the old saying goes you get what you pay for? I know someone who had electric cut outs added to his car and it cost him around $1200 and the parts on the exhaust circuit etc all look OEM. he operates the cutout right from his steering wheel. I don't know who did his car, but it was done at some shop in CT. I'll ask him next time I see him. Make sure you getting quality.

Cut outs will always leak, eventually. Not matter how much you spend.

I had a boost controlled one on another car, for a pretty good while. In the beginning it was great, but after using it for a while it began to leak.

If you can deal with the sound of an exhaust leak eventually, go for it.

I'm going to assume that the shop will take care of any issues if they are within the products warranty. I just plan on keeping them open 99% of the time anyway.

Did some damage to a friends waverunner this weekend so holding off on the install for now. If the cutouts leak wouldn't they be covered under warranty? I'll be sure to ask my muffler guy before going through. Any reviews on the sound quality?

If you are talking about a warranty that the cutouts have, then that would be up to them, or the shop who installed it. If you are talking about the dealer, no it won't be covered.
