Rough idle and cutting out

I have been having rough idle problems for some time now, recently the car has started smoking from the exhaust quite heavily when it is cold. It has also cut out on me on the odd occasion with all the warning lights appearing when it cuts out (Transmission failure, DTC, Tyre pressure etc.)

some time ago i saw a post on here with a possible fix it was a small part and about an hours labor to fix the cutting out issue, i believe it was an indy or someone with a good knowledge of BMWs he was either from Nottingham or Derby, i have tried the search but cannot find the thread. can anyone help please?

Have you had the codes read on the car to see if it flags up anything?
