Scraped paint - recommendations?

Hi all,

I feel really stupid but this morning I wasn't paying attention backing into a tight spot in a parking garage and lightly scraped the side of my rear bumper. A small spot of the black plastic is exposed also anyway, any idea of what this might set me back and recommendations of where to go? I live in west Seattle and work eastside. Thanks in advance!

My wife did the same thing with her x3 so I got some touch up and fine sand paper. Wet sand the area to take down any sharp edges. Clean and apply the touch up. Let dry so it doesn't roll the pain when you sand, but then wet sand it with super fine to get it smoothed out. Then let dry and apply clear coat. Let dry and wet sand again to smooth out but do not sand through the clear. Then buff to a shine with wax. It won't be perfect like you shot the whole bumper, but you won't notice it unless you are really looking hard.

Where abouts on the eastside do you work? I have a few places I can recommend, depending on what area on the eastside you work. One shop is in Kirkland, and the other is in Issaquah. I am good friends with both places and i know they'd take good care of you. I also have another place in Lynnwood, but that might be a tad too far for you.

Thanks for the tips! I may try the DIY route if I don't find the right price.

I think I'm going to look at a local shop I found on Yelp in west Seattle first. Thanks again!

To respray the entire bumper, you're looking at 500-700 to do it right. I'm sure you can get it done cheaper if you shop around, but beware of quality if that matters to you. Spot painting can be done for less, but make sure you use someone who knows what they are doing.

I've received great results from Haury's Lake City Collision in - you guessed it - Lake City. They also offer a CCA discount, if you are a member.

If you lived closer I would help you out, but I don't think you want to spend a day in Portland. Good luck and hope you get it resolved without a lot of out of pocket.

I love Portland, and have family there. May take you up on that offer someday haha!

I'm checking out a place called Rico's Auto Buff tomorrow, they gave me a good estimate and have good reviews, so we will see how it goes. Thanks!

I go through "Collision Specialists" in Kent. They repaint pretty much any bmw body panel for $300 or more (depending on which panel it is) regardless of paint type. Good guys and they're all very knowledgable about auto restorations.

The whole area of Kent is pretty much the racing community, so i guess the auto body painting comes naturally with the territory. I'm sure they could do spot painting for you too. Just google them to get the phone number and have a chat with them. Tell them Isaac referred you (if they look at you confused, tell them 'the guy with the black bimmer sedan and black X5 wheels)
