Review: Meyle rotors, Akebono pads

So my rear brakes on my 06 325i were shot and I couldn't stand cleaning the brake dust off of mesh wheels so I decided to give akebono euro ceramic pads a try.

Did some research and ended up getting the pads from amazon and the rotors from fcp euro. Pads and rotors took about a week to arrive.

Instal was a breeze with the help of the fcp video on YouTube. Complete install took about 2 hours.

I've had these installed in the rear for about 2 weeks now and I honestly have zero complaints. Brake dust is about 80% less than oem pads.

I was a bit hesitant to use Meyle rotors as I couldn't find any reviews on them for e9x application. Now that I've had them for 2 weeks I can honestly say they are just as good as the oems.

The only difference I've noticed is when the pads/rotors are dead cold in the morning there is a very slight squeak for the first few stops, although once I brake harder or go threw a few braking cycles the pads heat up and become completely quiet.

Great, that is exactly what I have planned for my fronts ! Meyle is a reputable company and so is Akebono, but I think this is the 1st review I know of for both.

Is the squeak there when the engine is cold (i.e. would happen even the car has been sitting around for say 4 hours), or only on cold mornings ? Did you notice any change in the way the brakes bite ? (on the rears it might not be too noticeable, but most say the initial bite is a bit reduced from OEM)

I've only noticed the squeak whens the cars dead cold (morning starts), but its not to say it doesn't do it during the middle of the day when the car is all cooled down I just haven't noticed it.

Break bight appears to be the same although it might just be because I've only done the rears.

Yeah thanks for the review. I am about to order some Akebono pads too for my rears. What kind of rotors from fcp Euro did you go with? Im in their website now. I need a set of rotors as well. Cheers!

Changed my front pads to Akebono last weekend. No noise issues and I really can't tell a diff in feel. Looking forward to the low dust benefit.
