That rattle is exactly the same with both flywheels. I'll order some OEM mounts today and pop them in on the weekend.

The box issue is really weird, I've never seen anything like it. I'm not fussed too much it at the moment but I still have the worry that it might fail completely. I probably will change it for piece of mind.

The DP fix is pointless now anyway so you might as well remove it.

Both my primary o2 sensors went and I had really bad roughness under part throttle at steady speed which was really obvious. I actually have two spare brand new Bosch rear o2 sensors but they are the splice in type if you need some. I bought the front ones from Buypartsby at a fairly decent price last year.

Thanks for offer of sensors Idnan, I'll see what happens with this.

I'll start a new thread....

Your box issue sounds strange though.

Anyway, this is the third uprated clutch I've used (ACT Street and HPF Stg 2 previously) and it easily is the lightest out of the 3. There is sometimes small amounts of judder when pulling off but that is more likely due to the fact I've been using an auto for the last 3 weeks. In that regard it is much better than the HPF which was a nightmare to pull off normally without huge amounts of revs.
That is also the case for me with the HPF Stg1 that I have. And the main reason why my better half really does not want to drive my car. Very good to hear that this is improved with the Spec and the new flywheel! As I don't have stiffer mounts I probably shouldn't have the gear rattle problem that badly. However, as long as I don't weld my HPF clutch I won't change it out for your combination right now (have other financial priorities for the time being...).

I cross fingers your gearbox is ok.

Just about to order my spec 2+ clutch inc hybrid option to fit oem fw.

Is there anything else I should order with the clutch or is it a full kit including bearings etc. I've not replaced a clutch before!!

I'd check with spec first but you definitely need the aluminium gearbox bolts and new flywheel bolts.

Mine came with alignment tool, release bearing and pilot bearing.

Any idea where to source the LuK DMF from at the prices mentionned?

I'm not sure I can afford the time to drive to Darren Woods to have the clutch fitted.

Yep, you'll need:

New flywheel bolts (8 for yours)
New box main bolts (magnesium use-once bolts)
New exhaust to downpipe gasket (may as well)

Check if your clutch comes with a SPEC billet thrust bearing. If not you'll need a new BMW one.

Mike at Woods phoned 3 places when I was there, £230, £320 and £210 for the LUK DMF, and circa £180 for the clutch, friction plate and thrust bearing. Don't know who they were though.

Those are trade prices + VAT.

Phil200, are you going to get a brand new DMF?

Idnan, any updates, how is is going after a few miles?

Mines coming out on Friday, strange thing is I'll think i'll miss it when i'm out having a blast, but at least I won't get any ear-ache of the missus...

Need to get her a new car to take the pressure off mine.

Yep new DMF - best price I've found is like £430 though! Need to call DW if they can get them for £210+Vat..

You have a 6bolt flywheel - you could always fit the 1M DMF for a slight performance gain with factory comfort levels...

Too late now, at Woods in the morning.

Is the 1M unit lighter then?

Not worth worrying about it.

Does that mean your track day on the 4th is cancelled or do you plan to bed it in there?

No mate, still going tomorrow, looking forward to it.

The benefit of OE organic clutches - no real bedding in required! other than a few miles to settle it in.

It will have done 200 miles by the time I get there, that's plenty.

There is some judder but I'm kind of used to that from the previous clutch. Gear rattle is just as bad as before but I've trained myself to drop a gear anytime I want to accelerate so that isn't a problem.

One thing though, I'm changing the gearbox oil for D4/D6 ATF as it is too stiff when cold and doesn't get much better when warm.

Running map 4 is killing me the most though. Done about 150miles but that has been only around town in bad traffic so non stop clutch use.

Got the new luk dmf and standard clutch back on. Wow.

Super light, smooth as silk, and strong right out of the box, as you'd expect of course...

Glad yours is feeling ok idnan. When we got mine off there is a blue streaked hotspot on the pressure plate, probably due/causing the judder.

Had a try of 335rocks clutch pedal yesterday at Bedford, and a little drive round the car park.

He has a HPF stage 2.

The pedal feel is pretty much just like the SPEC stage 2/3. Bite point is higher which made me sound like an old woman riding the clutch.

But no rattles as he has the DMF, and virtually no judder, althought Lars says its was bad but now ok as he's had it for 16k.

My clutch just arrived!!

Bought from Garage@Whifbitz in the end as it was significantly cheaper than going direct or via other UK suppliers... I cant recommend them enough!

Now time to find the DMF and/or get up to Darren Woods!

Finally after months of deliberating, waiting and procrastinating my clutch and flywheel was fitted by Darren Woods and his team yesterday.

In the end I went for the Spec Stg2+ (with Enhanced Hybrid Option) clutch coupled with an LUK OEM Dual Mass Flywheel. I coupled this with a Modded CDV, gearbox and diff oil change.

So far (250 miles) its been great:
No noise/chatter. Very Light and OEM like. Low engagement point. very smooth changes where previously they were clunky or difficult. Clutch seems to bite nicely and has held moderate throttle inputs without issue (I'm trying to run it in as per the spec directions). I'm looking forward to doing a few pulls once the run in is finished..

I had a few other bits done at the same time:

Engine Oil and Filter change
Rear turbo vacuum hose replaced (Needs a lift really)
Valve Cover Gasket (was leaking oil into coils/spark plug holes)
Downpipe Crush Gaskets (Old ones were leaking)

As always I was impressed by the professionalism and knowledge of the team at DW. They are hugely experienced with the 335i, excited about working on them and where the community is going - I wish they were closer so I could use them for everything...

So any updates how do you like your clutch after all? Any downsides/regrets? I am thinking going same route just still looking from where to order.
