You got to remember at end of the day its a big engine and on the motorway you are using momentum to keep you going thus using less fuel. Whereas about town you are stopping and starting and you require a lot of energy to move off again hence use more fuel
Im not very good with physics but hope above very loosely explains why mpg drops in town Just double check your red boost pipe for any oil and and tray below for anysigns of oil. When my red pipe was leaking oil my mpg dropped to 24mpg around town... dont take it the wrong way but around town are you booting it everywhere, pedal to the metal style? |

The first few days i was booting it like you say and was getting 20 but recently i have just been driving normally, in town (very stop start), and i'm getting 25. By normal i mean sticking to the speed limits and not accelerating fast (very hard to do this).I will double check that again and will take some pictures for you. I hope you're right and it turns out to be the red hose.

Thanks, will give you a shout if im ever around there. I'll also try and get some pics for you tomorrow.
I have only used Shell V-Power diesel and the temp around town fluctuates between 84c-87c. Edit: Realised i haven't even checked the tyre pressures that were set by the dealers. Normally i'd trust them but they knew jack sh*t about this car.

Another update.
Just came back from a 16 mile round trip (roughly 45min total driving) to a village north of Northampton. Went through town and then it was just country lanes, roughly 60% country and 40% town driving. Drove like a granny 90% of the time. So i managed to get 37.1mpg. But it was soooo boring So i don't think there's anything wrong with the car. I guess it just me. The combination of my pedal to the metal driving style and the stop start driving in town probably caused the mpg to drop to 20-25mpg. Still a bit annoyed as some people have said they drive fast and get 30-35, whereas i have to drive like a granny to get that ![]() Well i'll still hold judgement and will do another road test when i go Leicester tomorrow. I'll make sure the pedal is stuck to the floor and will monitor the mpg ![]()

Can anyone recommend any good wheel couriers? I want to put my Bridgestone 19" runflats on eBay today. Thanks.

Paisley Frieght I've heard are reputable couriers buddy, if not, try Interparcel .. I just used the latter on Monday from here to the Highlands in Scotland. For something that weighed about 20kg and worth over £200, they charged £8 with further options to insure the contents.

Thanks Ian. Hoping to put them on today and hopefully get rid of these runflats. They are awful tyres.

Mistryn - Here are a few pics of the red hose. They are rubbish pics so i don't think you can even see it properly. It doesn't look like there's too much oil? ![]() ![]()

I rarely got more than 27/29mpg around town, driving like Mrs Daisy would see 45/46 on cruise control on the M/way. If you're only getting 20 odd mpg around town, wear lighter shoes, the one you have are too heavy + you'll always normally win a traffic light Grand Prix, chill, you have nothing to prove now,the 320D has goneNothing wrong with your boost hose,if it looks like this, break out the Kleenex, followed by your wallet: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=223

![]() Anyways I guess my hose is fine then ![]() Edit: So getting around 25mpg whilst driving casually in high stop start conditions is normal then?

That pipe is fine I would not worry about it, sent you a PM :-)
When I took my pipe off it was covered in oil as seen below, if it was looking like that then I would have it seen to ![]() |

Another quick update
![]() Went on a longer run today to Leicester via the M1. Set the cruise to 70 and to my delight it settled at 49 mpg by the time i got there. I did cheat a bit by decreasing the speed by a few mphs on inclines and increasing the speed by a few mphs on declines. On the way back i set the cruise to 80 and was getting around 43-44mpg. Not really worried about the low town mpg anymore ![]() I have a question on the headlight washers. I find it reeeeally annoying that when i spray the lights, i get screenwash all over the bonnet and sometimes on the drivers window. Was it designed like this or is there a fault?

Just a little cosmetic mod that I have done today, which i got from awbimmer's thread. I bought a piano black steering wheel cover and handbrake cover off mac500. I couldn't work out how to fit the handbrake cover though?
Anyways here are some pics. I don't think the last one does it justice, think it will look much better at night time, see awbimmers one! Before: ![]() Scary! ![]() Mmmmmm ![]() Now this is making me want to retrim the steering wheel....

That's what I'm talking about Mo, looks bloody good!! Good start mate and Re trim in due course will definitely be a good move ! I'm dead keen on installing the m3 wheel since the leather is so soft and grippy !
Enjoying the paddles shifters ?
