brake rust prevention

My new Pagid discs have arrived for rear and joy of joy are painted.

Want to give them a extra covering just not sure which would be better.

Zync Primer or Hammerrite High Temp Paint.

Hammerite is up to 600C just wondering what anyone else has done

Hammerite is very popular. But it will eventually get rust or small deposits on it anyway. Unless you are totally anal about cleaning.

Better to just re paint every year or 6 months month if you want it pristine.

I usually retop up the pain when winters / summer tyres swap occurs as have two sets of wheels so not a problem

Will go with ahmmer as black will look better IMO

I just use standard Hammerite smooth silver. Seems to work fine. Once you've built up a couple of layers it doesn't seem to rust again.

Masked it up and done Hammerite High Temp hopefully will end with good protection. Then just got the calipers to do. Not sure yet have normal hammerite for brush application so will probably use that as dont want to use spray can near the bodywork

After advice from a mate who rebuilds & sells motorbikes, I used spray matt black 'BBQ & Stove' paint, same thing as high temp paint, but needs a 'bake' to cure, so you have to be careful fitting the disks after painting as it isn't fully hard, then a good run with plenty of braking to 'cure' the finish, looks great.

It gives an even, smoot matt finish, almost like a powder coat, looks great.

Most important thing for any finish is degreasing and drying before painting. New discs come coated in oil/grease to stop rust, so I scrubbed mine in a bucket of Gunk, then washed with soapy water and rinsed, you can tell when they are properly clean as they go rusty in seconds, even finger contact leaves rusty 'finger prints' on the steel.

I've tried black and, previously, silver. But Black looks much better IMO.
