Question Trees and Gardens

Gardening is not really my thing apart from basic maintenance so wondering if anyone on here will know

I have this palm tree growing in the garden but it has to go, extension will be going in its place and no where else to put it. Dont really just want to chop it down as its now good size over 6ft high and doing well. Needs some of the old leaves pruning but that's about it.

Plan ideally would be to sell it as they seem to go for lot of money so I'm told.

But have no idea what its called or how much really it could be worth

You'll have a job getting that out alive and selling it.... unless you own a digger.

I'm no gardener but in the last 2 houses I've disposed of roughly 40 trees (none of them have been palm varieties like that so what I'm about to say may well be tosh). The general rule of thumb with a tree is that the roots are equal to the crown in terms of their reach/depth.

I moved this one 2 years ago as it was further back to where it is as you look at it and its growing in a huge bowl being a palm the roots are a fine web than long prongs like a normal tree.. Getting it out want be a problem I've picked up bigger things with help.
It will be more shifting it to a trailer but a an engine hoise & hippo bag will take care of it.

Looks to me like you have a fan palm or more specifically 'Trachycarpus fortunei - Chusan Palm'

Your right about the brown bits, They need to be cut off where they start to turn green again. Probably too much water over the winter, does the pot have a hole in the bottom or more specifically 'bottom hole'

THanks the pot is a net of some sort so totally porous. So most likley just case too much water over winter. Its still doing well when we bought the house 6 years ago it was only about 4ft if that

Do you think I should just trim the whole braches or each leaf back to green ?

You only need to trim each leaf back to where it is alive again which will be where the yellow meets green.

As for trimming the whole branches that is an asthetic measure so entirely up to you. Just cut them flush to the trunk. Some people prefer to have just the bits sticking out the top and some prefer to keep them all.

Carry on.
