On replied, looking for actual spare tire kit, not full size tires. I have a snow tire in my trunk ATM. Want a smaller tire kit to give me space

Yes, that's what all these vendors are selling, & what you would get when buying off the forum. This is the compact spare that everyone uses. You could pick one up at a salvage yard too, but make sure tire size is I stated above.

There isn't a compact spare tire made for the later 3 series...

Link to spare tire kit from Tischer BMW:

http://www.getbmwparts.com/partlocat...catalogid=4462

Note the disclaimer in the explanation and then disregard it (just as they state) - they have to say that as it is not 'specifically' made for 3 series, but take my word for it - they work just fine & have correct diameter to match other wheels/tires for X Drive system safety.

Here are the individual part numbers of items included in that kit - al you are looking for is the 1st (3) items in red if you just want the tire:

#36 11 6 758 778 Black Steel Emergency Wheel (4Bx17 ET: 18)
#36 12 1 116 326 Rubber Valve (L=42.5mm)
#36 12 6 758 795 Tire (T135/80R17)

#71 10 6 781 144 Wing Nut (M8)
#71 11 6 758 781 Oddments Tray
#71 12 1 179 953 Crank
#71 12 6 756 392 Chock, Aluminum
#71 12 6 767 944 Articulated Car Jack, Steel
#71 15 1 180 625 Bracket for Spare Wheel

Does the kit have some kind of tie-down for the later 3 series, or is it just loose in the trunk? Changing the tire should be much faster than AAA.

No tie down included - since there is no actual spare for the 3 series, you have to use the front/rear cargo tie downs that are in the trunk.

You either use a Cargo Net, Straps, or there is a Spare Tire Cover that has it's own tie down straps sold by BavAuto - but it's $157 shipped
