DTC?

From the book (page 76)

DTC Dynamic Traction Control is a traction optimised version of DSC intended for use in special circumstances, such as roads covered by deep snow. Under these circumstances the system ensures maximum forward traction, but at a certain cost in terms of stability. Consequently, you must exercise suitable caution when driving under these conditions.

It's been a very slow day, can you tell?

It's what it's for so no surprise!

Next suggestion would be hit it into fully manual mode (into DS and then upshift) and pull away in second.

A combination of the two and you should certainly never get stuck in the UK on winters..

ps. It's also the "fun button" in summer conditions! But BMW can't write that part in the manual

remember what it says as well

but at a certain cost in terms of stability.

So it does help to gain your inertia in snow but it does not help if you are turning sharply in a round about with full of snow.

It also says, it is best to activate DTC for a short time.

Press it fully off, find an empty car park and keep going until your feeling sick. Fun button for the winter too.

This didn't stop me getting stuck on a steep hill next to me the other day ... It was ok going up until I had to stop ... Then just slipped and spun no matter how I did it !! I think the other cars spinning all over the bit I was on and the temperature had made it more ice than anything else. First time they've not worked though - they make the car useable where it wouldn't have managed to the end of the road before !

The tyres are Bridgestone Blizzaks with loads of tread ... Guess I was just asking a bit much of them on the hill ...

Pretty sure the car pulls away in second when in 'D' anyway so you may not need to use DS......

Awesome fun though our cars in the snow. I did a perfect power slide round a bend at about 5 mph - it's great being able to practice knowing that you can't come into any harm! Mrs still went mad though. My get out clause was that all the traction control etc was on so what could I do?!

As MEGA has said.

I have purposely been going out on some deserted roads to see how much I can get away with whilst running Yokohama W Drive winters (this is with a mate in a L/R so if I did get stuck i'd be pulled out).

I have to say that I thought the auto in snow would be bad, it's actually very good.

Flick into DS and be gentle or just use 2nd with the DTC off.

Happy safe driving and enjoy the snow this Friday, again!

I had Blizzak LM-25's on my Evo 6 Tommie Mak, superb tyre but an old tyre now.

I'm still very surprised to hear you got stuck but every tyre has their limit I guess.

You really just have to be gentle and on very steep hills you need to carry a little more forward momentum to avoid breaking traction in the snow.
