**REDUCED** E90 / 91 Blaupunkt stereo upgrade - everything you need!

Hi All,

For sale is my complete Blaupunkt Stereo upgrade (as made popular by this forum).

This sale includes everything you need (apart from the screwdrivers!). Once purchased just follow Gizzie's excellent guide on this forum and transform the sound in your E90 / E91.

I am only selling due to me selling my car.

Specifically the sale includes:
2 x E90 / E91 door surrounds with cut out for tweeters (grill meshes included) - original BMW part (in black) - £sold
2 x foam inserts to hold tweeters in place - original BMW part - £sold
2 x BMW tweeters - original BMW part - £sold
1 x Blaupunkt THA475 Amp
1 x Harness for BMW E9x - to connect to your stereo
1 x 5.5m extension cable to enable you to mount your amp in the boot
1 x Spare Amp fuse
3 x Amp securing bolts (not sure where the 4th went! I only used 2 bolts)

All the above are in excellent condition and I purchased all the parts new and as a result have only been installed once.

Courier by your arrangements - not sure on the cost due to the size of the door surrounds. Collection welcome, I am 7 miles west of Cambridge, but frequently travel around the country (so possibly could come to some arrangement).

Total purchase price for the above is well above £350.

Offered at £270.

Price reduced to £250.

Just amp and amp accessories remaining - last offer at £150 plus P+P

Any questions please ask. This really is everything you need and makes an enormous difference to the poor sound of the standard set-up in the E90/E91.

I'd be interested in tweeters and door surrounds but I completely understand you will probably want to sell this as one piece. If not let me know!

I would prefer to keep it as a kit for the time being.

If I were to split, it would be door surrounds and tweeters as one package and amp and cables as the other.

Werent you the guy looking for an amp etc earlier this month? Did you find one?

What were you thinking for the door surrounds and tweeter?

I upgraded my HU, so presumably I could end up getting any old amp. my car doesn't have the tweeters though so would be a nice addition. I'm presuming they just hook into the existing speaker wire?

You are right, the tweeters just piggy back on the door card speakers (there is a spare connection waiting for them). Very easy to do - 30 mins per side.

I am not sure about the amp, I am guessing you could use the Blaupunkt 475, but dont know the implications of havin changed your HU.

Its a good complete package - let me know what you think.

Why is there ALWAYS something else you 'NEED' for your car!?

I didn't want to upgrade the amp until reading this! I really can't afford it at the moment though as i'm getting a remap on Saturday and I really should by some wheel spacers first :-(

Its the way of the world! I am the same, there is always the next thing - especially with cars!

Good thing about the amp package i am offering is (as I bought it all new) I am taking the depreciation hit on it. I would expect, if you looked after it, it would be worth similar money should you ever sell it. There are no moving parts (aside from the tweeter cones) so nothing should wear out.

I didnt do many mods to my car - but this (for me) was worth every penny.

Just to go over old ground again - this kit is basically an amp upgrade?

I'm thinking to really upgrade the sound you need new door speakers, underseat subs and an amp? I'd never change a head unit as it's a total tealeaf magnet if you do.

Been considering taking mine in to the local ICE store to see what they can do. The sound on mine seems pretty reasonable (I accept that car hifi is very hard to get near home hifi - which is decent in this house) but could always be better.

If you are trying to achieve home hifi quality sound in your car - you will struggle.

As an owner of the car before it was fitted and after, the difference in quality is amazing. It allows the subs and the midrange to focus their attentions to the low and mid frequencies, while the tweeters handle the high frequencies.

Allowing this separation improved the bass response, clarity and volume prior to distortion.

I am not saying there aren’t better options available, but these will come at significant cost and are likely to be less OEM.

en6 - sorry I'm not trying to put a downer on this at all - just querying the kit. Everyone says it's good but I'm not sure if the BMW speakers are good enough to handle sound boosted by an amp.

I've had three cars where all I've done is fitted rear 6x9s (hatches) into an acoustic shelf and the difference has been amazing. I'm a big believer in upgrading speakers first then the rest - or doing it all at once.

Home hifi sound is probably near impossible as you say.

It's a PITA having a dad who was a pro bass player for many years (and still plays and teaches) - but I am a believer in intelligent (and often cheap) upgrades rather than just flinging cash at it.

Anyone know how much a shop would charge to install this kit? I'd be reluctant to try myself!

No probs, as you say there are many alternatives.

What appealed to me was that it was near enough OEM, totally plug and play and easy to restore to original. (IE no cutting door cards etc)

Dont worry about getting someone to install this for you, it is so easy to do. Gizze's guide is hugely helpful and it took me an afternoon and I really took my time.

I have fitted two car stereos in my lifetime. Even that took ages! I am to DIY what Joseph Fritzel is to parenting.

Thats one more than me prior to me rolling up my sleeves for this one.

It really isn't difficult - the hardest part was finding space for the adapter block behind the CD player (I have pro nav - i believe it is easier if you dont).

Or, as you mention, I am sure a car audio place would do this for you. Anymore than 2 hours and I would be surprised.

All,

Due to a number of members asking if I would split the package I am now prepared to do this.

The obvious and sensible split would be

1. Door surrounds (with foam inserts) & tweeters £90 + P&P
2. Amp, extension cables & bolts / fuses etc. £180 + P&P

Or £250 for the lot.

I am open to sensible offers on the above.

Now your considering splitting, I might be prepared to consider the Amp lot if I could find out if it's possible to fit to a one series coupe.

Gizze would definately be the man to ask... let's hope he is along soon lol!

Matt - let me know if you hear from Gizze. I am afraid I cant advise whether it would fit into a 1 series.

Jon - I know there are about 2 or 3 different types of tweeter (with different costs) - I am pretty sure these were £37-£40 EACH +VAT. (I can get part numbers if you want when I am home later - assuming they are printed on the speaker).

Door surrounds were about £40 for the pair. I am happy to listen to an offer if you are keen. Are you local to Cambridge? If you collect I can point to where the screws and clips are to aid your fitting process.

So long as you have the boggo stereo system, it works fine - even the 3 series harness fits the 1 series

However I found that the amp doesn't quite fit under the boot floor, which is annoying

Edit - mine is a THA555 amp, so may be a bit bigger?
