224/45/18 and 255/40/18 Tires on 335xi

Did it see pics

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=132580

I am about to install 225/45/18 on the front and 255/40/18 on the rear of my 335xi sedan with sport and 18" rims in place of the 22/40/18 and 255/35/18.

Does anyone have any experience with this size change?

Since it is 5% higher profile the overall tire diameter will grow 0.886 front and 1". Each sidewall will see half of that. The differential front to rear will remain the same .059" but will reverse so there should be no issue with the X drive system.

Keep us updated. We haven't tried tires that tall on the car before.

Why not 235/40-18 all around? Still a bit of diameter growth (but much less) and guaranteed to have no xi issues.

If you want the wide rear looks, put on some spacers.

I'm running 225/45/18 and 245/45/18 snows on my e90 335i with sport. No rubbing or any problems, except for a slight speedometer error. Actually the 225/45/18 fills the front gap nicely.

im running 235/40 18, 265/35 18 for winter settup....
for summer: 235/35 19, 275!!/30 19

I did 275s instead of 265s cause its closer to equal diaameter front to rear than the 265s. Ive heard its not good to have a difference of over 30mm in width but what r u gonna do. lata

OP- Why use a different size? If it is for winter 225/45-17 all around or even better 205/50-17 all around would be the choice

I was thinking about adding tha setup to my wheels also. Then decided to with 40 in the front and 35 in the rear. That small difference that you want wont matter from protecting you from busting up a rim. My ride is great since I put on the Pirelli Neros on my wheels. And it looks a hell of a lot better. Alot of guys on this forum will tell you the size that you want will fit, which it will but from and astetic standpoint it will look like an eyesore. I saw a G35 with that set up and I wanted to slash his tires.

Why oh Why

By going to this size I am looking to gain some side wall to potect rims and fill out the wells a bit more. It is going raise my final gearing by 3.4%. This will effectivly reduce the torch to the road by that same 3.4%....but.......the will go away shorty after take-off.

I plan to chip it so that will not matter much

Not quite sure what you mean by dimensionally but the overall height is higher for the xi vs. i when equiped with the sport package not sure about the non sport though.

Cheers,

Cheers,
I mean are all of the clearances inside the wheel well the same. I should look into the offsets between the i and Xi sport wheels. I believe they use the same 162 wheel. If they are the same I would assume the clearances are the same.

Simply because they use the same sized wheel and tire from OE does not mean that the vehicle clearances are the same.

Any updates?

I'm going with M6 reps 8.5" all the way around on a SpaceGray Coupe with 15mm spacers on the back.

Tire size 245/35/19 or 255/35/19, I can't decide

He ordered the Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season in 225/45/18 for the front and 255/40/18 for the rear yesterday. His car is not here yet though. It will be a few weeks before an update.
