Audio pros please chime in

I'm looking to get new speakers for the home karaoke system (and I guess for listening to music and maybe watch movies...). I'm stuck trying to decide between the three JBL speakers below. Any comment or advice about which ones to go with is greatly appreciated!

JBL EON 305 Lightweight,Powerful Two-Way 15" 250W Passive Floor Wedge Speaker- $310 each

JBL JRX125 500-watt Dual 15-Inch Two-Way Portable Loudspeaker- $420 each

JBL JRX115 15-Inch Classic 250W Continuous Two-Way Portable Loudspeaker- $265 each

The difference between the JRX115 and the JRX125 is that the 125 is the newer version with 2 woofers instead of just 1. It also is double the wattage.

hopefully I can make your decision making easier here by bringing out things that people often overlook.

eons
convenient and light
more mounting options
peaks at 128db
33lb

jrx 115
have mounting hardware
peaks at 128db
61 lb

jrx125
dont have mounting hardware
peaks at 133db
94 lb

a difference of 3db is twice the volume in sound. so the 125 is more than twice as loud as the other two. your place might not really need that. also the 125 has two 15inch drivers that might make the sound too muddy in such a small room. you still have to think about how you want to use them and which one will serve your purpose the best. good luck.

Thanks for the post! I was afraid the 125's would be too heavy and too much for my small place. A pair of those would mean 4 x 15" drivers which will be too crazy. So perhaps it's just between the 115's and the EONs. I'm leaning toward the EONs but curious if they are better or worse than the 115's.

Had a chance to listen to Yamaha S115 V today and they sounded quite better than the JBL JRX115.

the eon's range is 38Hz-20kHz while the jrx115 is 38Hz-16kHz so the eon can cover more frequency...

however, both JBL have 1" high frequency driver while the yamaha uses a 2" high frequency driver. if it sounded quite better for you then I'm going to guess that you listened to something that uses more mid-range to high when you heard it. if you are not into hip hop or rap that needs the low end then you should be fine with the yamaha. the extra inch on the yamaha HF driver really does help with bringing out details on the mid-range to high frequency which is what we listen to anyway for the most part.

If I hook up a sub to the Yamaha would it solve the low end problem? It should take care of the low range right?

if your connections are already ok maybe you have not engaged the channel yet. are you getting any signal at all? red/green button on the channel lighting up?

At first I wasnt getting any signal to the mixer because i didnt turn up the gain (noob here lol). Then i didnt get sound from the receiver. After a long while i realized that i needed to set it to use rca. It's a harman kardon receiver where i have to select the source and select what type of input. Finally got it figured out and it's sounding pretty damn good right now. Thanks guys!
