Do the turbos on the 335i usually die after 82k miles or before?

Wastegate rattle can often lead to replacing both turbos due to underboost. BMW has the extended warranty on the 335i turbos 8yrs/82k miles, but i'm wondering if 82k miles is not enough of an extension. What has been everyones experience?

Mine went at 63k - for the siren noise not waste-gate rattle: but now they are covered for another 8 years/82,000 miles? that's 145k?

my started making noise at 79 000 miles. I got them replaced yesterday.
My friends could not hear the noise because it was still really low. But after research i knew that they're going bad and having only 3 000 miles left on my warranty i had to changed them asap.

Are you sure you are warranted for another 8y/82k? Most warranties replace / fix only in the warranty period and they do not extend it each time the part is replaced. In other words past 82k with new or old turbos you are on your own.

I believe you are correct. It doesn't ADD on to what you currently have. Its 82K total miles and/or 8 years AFTER production.

That being said, when they do replace your turbos, BMW has a 2 year labor/part warranty on their jobs so the warranty is extended on those parts for that length, if you happen to eclipse the 82K within that time period.

I cant guarantee that I am right. I am just going based of what my SA said which was the new turbos start a new warranty and get the 8y/82k. Like I said I have no way of confirming that unless I call them later.

Can anyone confirm if I have been misinformed?

I cannot confirm it but, I'm pretty sure I'm right. As for comparison per this logic HPFP warranty should be extended every 120k miles after each failure up to 120k. In other words, let's say HPFP fails at 100k, that would make warranty up to 220k. The answer is no, it is warrantied up to certain time / mileage and it is done after that.

Depends but likely after, I wish someone would start another class action suit that would extend the warranty on those at least as long as the hpfp

If you believe a Serve Advisor, then i have a bridge for sale. Most warranty coverage is for the stated period of time. If BMW kept renewing it after every repair then the car with turbo's would have a lifetime warranty.

The guys at the BMW warranty department aren't dumb.82k miles was a very calculated number. I'd say it's pretty rare that turbo's are replaced prior.

Is it 2 years / unlimited miles or something like 2 years / 12k miles parts / labor? By the way, what year is your 335i as mine is 09 and at 76k right now and do not have any problems with turbos?

It could be either that most will fail up to 82k or most fail just after 82k, but I guess only BMW have stats for that data and I'm sure it depends on the build date.
