Stolen, 335i – London (E11)

It has been over a year since I have posted on here, when I first had my e92 it was great source of information, then when I stepped up to my 335i (e90) It became an everyday event to check new posts etc. But sort of lost touch with it of late.

However, I know the folk on here cherish their Bavarian beauties and so I thought I would advise you of this, I guess it more relevant to people in the east London/essex areas.

I live in a nice suburb of east London in a street where you will need at 550K to buy a 3 bed terrace (this is not high in many cases but its certainly no scums’ville) Anyway, I come out of my house at 8’ this morning to go to work like I normally do to find that my car is not there. I had left it directly outside my front door and all that was left was a perfect silhouette in the snow – which would suggest it was taken not long before I came out the front door.

No smashed glass, no alarm and no tyre tracks in the snow. Simply lifted and taken away – as brazen as f**k.
We all know how easy it is for people to take these cars, either by some electronic device or by trailer. So from someone who thought it would never happen to them, be extra vigilant guys

If it was lifted onto a trailer (no tyre marks in the snow) even with security update, would have made no difference....

Lifting onto a trailer suggests a much more organised and pro culprit. Not these c**ts walking round with the coder and smashing glass.

On the subject of lifting, surely these cars should be fitted with a sensor.

But anyway, unless the snow covered the tracks and it was stolen earlier on, they could have used a jammer to prevent you remote locking it, nipped inside the cab, plugged in a device and programmed the key. Followed you home and just opened it with a blank key and drove it off.

Mind you i would have thought run flats in the snow would have been more effective than the alarm.

No tyre tracks for the trailer/truck in the snow? Could be crucial for the 5-0's inevitably futile chase.

In any case, bad to hear, sorry that has happened to anyone and especially a member.

What is happening to all these cars that are being stolen?!!

I don't have links to the criminal under world but surely it can't be that easy to load on to a container ship and if stripping for parts aren't most of the parts are identifiable?!

The most frustrating thing about this is that after 11 hours of the car being nicked I received an email from the met, confirming that the case was now closed as there was nothing else that could be done.

I was just about to copy the email and my response but realised that it is confidential and there may be consequences.

However, I can tell you that the two officers that came to my house categorically stated that there will be no investigation as their numbers are just too thin on the ground. All they would be doing was logging the incident on the system and providing a crime number. Open season for all car thieves. ‘ Come to England, steel a car and don’t worry the police won’t be investigating.

Ludicrous.

And they wonder why people take the law into their own hands.

However, this issue was so well documented (Assuming a key was coded.. ): I'm really surprised but yet of course gutted for you - that nothing was done to secure the car.

Are you sure that simply the snow didn't recover any tyre tracks? It seems unlikely but of course not impossible that someone managed to lift if without the wheels turning at all...

No, there was tyre tracks up and down the street created by various vehicles but there was no tracks from the position the car was parked to the middle of the road (which is where the traffic drives given the width of the road)

The ironic / irritating thing then - is even if you'd have secured your car - they seem to have lifted it ASSUMING they could later code a key. They'd at this point have gone to any length to get the car operational (as they are doing it I imagine in a lockup or underground carpark rather than on your driveway).

I doubt moving the ODB port would have done much to help.. And BMW's "security fix" obviously would have done nothing.

Just one of those things mate. Could have happened to any car / any body..

Argh.

Sorry to post something a little off topic, sorry about your car

I was speaking to my friend at BMW yesterday and he told me this story.

His customer was woken in the early hours by his engine revving on his M3, he jumped up only to see 4 blokes in his car, he called the police and shouted at them out the window, when he got down to the car they had bolted, he couldn't work out why the car wouldn't move, he worked out in the end because they was trying to be so quiet they hadn't shut the drivers door and this apparently stops the car staying in gear on new DCT boxes?? so he was very lucky lad!!
