My 330i or a 335i

I have had now for almost 2 years my E91 manual 330i. With the last of the n/a straight6. I was quite open to 330i, 330d or 335i when I got it but the 330i was the first I found that met my expectations.

I convinced myself I would not tune so 335i would be to tempting.

My car is stunning. Is a 2010 car with 62k.

However I came across this that is about 5 miles away & it got me thinking.

http://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/3-Series/3...cmdc=se_na_re_

Older
But Less Miles
Turbo

Obviously I would keep my 269's.

Given the dealer will likely fleece me even though my car probably has a comparable value.

Thoughts?

Both are stunning looking motors. No matter what you car is worth, the dealer is gonna shaft you for 2K. Your best selling your private, then going in with cash. But that can be a ball ache I know

19k for a 2008 is a bit steap

My initial thought is that your 330i looks lovely and that 335i is expensive, but has a lovely spec. Tough decision.

Both lovely cars, tough decision mate, it all depends on what sort of a part change u get, is urs similarly specced as the one on the link? I'd say go for it, u only live once, that car comes with an n54 engine which is delightful to mod. U can sell the 313's for a grand and u don't have to worry about issues with the n54 as u will be covered by AUC warranty, being lci the road tax is cheaper, I love the interior of the other car too

I have unmarked saddle bag (dark tan) leather interior in mine with Piano Black inserts & full length sunroof. Headlights do that auto dip/cornering stuff. I am still running extended warranty on mine also.

Well another forum member is looking for LCI 330i for max 14K.
If your car falls into that category, then sell it and go for 335i.

If I was you, I would keep your current car (Sorry, this is what you do not want to hear. But 330i is reliable compared to 335i).

Good luck either way.

I think the other thing worth noting is I bought my wife a 2005 Impreza STI Widetrack a couple of months back..

So this is the 'fun' car.

My 330i is my sensible transport that needs to be reliable/economical(ish) car.

If you are happy with your car, stick with it.

I do prefer the 335i to the 330i, but if I owned a 330i I'm not sure I'd go for another similar car which is older.

You're losing in some aspects but gaining in others.

It will also cost a bit to change over and you'll be unlikely find a 6 year old car without a few niggles you'll want to sort.

I'm sitting on the fence for this one.

The 335i has high beam assist as well, doesn't have the pano roof tho

I'd say swap, would be difficult to sell a high miler for good money later on, perfect age, miles to sell on now

That said the dealer car is priced high

Flipped my car back to MV3's so ready for a visit to the dealers.......

Although my longer term plan was to wait a couple of years and get a big engine 3 touring xdrive.

So best to wait. I'll keep telling myself..... I hope the don't drop the price.

This might be me! lol.

I would certainly be interested in the car if it were to come up for sale!

Keep what you have, yours is a great looking car and as you say you already have a car for "fun". The 335i is way overpriced and is missing some nice extras such as your panny roof.

19k is way too much for that. They will probably offer you 13-14 for yours. I wouldn't bother changing. Keep an eye on it. Overpriced dealers in expensive locations have a habit of slashing 3k off the price overnight.

I was thinking swap until you said this. Stick with your current setup sounds perfect.

I agreee with everyone else that the dealers car is very expensive.

Is it just me that thinks the Dealer car isn't priced too far off..? Not that many 335i tourings out there. It's a good spec. All 335i's have been climbing in price recently.

Go for a test drive and then feedback to the forum on your thoughts. Be interesting to get your feedback on the 330i / 335i difference. Sounds like you'll have a few buyers lined up, myself included, if you sell now or later.

I may well take a look at it if I get the chance. So close its unreal.

I think every car I have bought has been at least 100 miles away and one was 500 miles.

I had a good run upto Guildford today. Engine warmed up and gave the 330i some exercise. Sounds great & loves to be worked. No lazy fat torque here. Then I reset the mpg in the 40/50mph zones & left it in a high gear. When I parked up it was reading 42mpg. Even after a normal drive home was still on 36 mpg. Such a great balance of performance & economy.

I think the problem is I spend to much time online or Pistonheads dreaming and not enough driving what I have!

When I got mine I had been watching the car running upto Xmas 2012 at the main dealer. It kept snowing. Xmas & snow not ideal combination for BMW sales! By the time I got to it they had dropped in 1500. Standard pricing the chap said was to drop by certain amount if stock had not moved.

The 335i Touring would get very interesting if it dropped by 2k.

....... its like an episode of deal or no deal.

This thread has taught me that I really want/need some 269's!

I've also driven pre and post LCI 330i's and also 335i. I love the revvier nature of the N/A car, but the twin turbos definitely make the car more usable. Or perhaps you. Can be a little lazier? Either way they're both great cars.

Bottom line is I wouldn't change my 335i for a 330i.
