Low boost 30ff code need some help
Hi , couple weeks ago i got half engine light come on lost some boost etc, check the codes and it was low boost pressure i cleared it and it went away for a bit , i done some research on here and replaced the 2 vacuum hoses where the oil filter housing is, my old ones were in pretty poor condition. Ive checked the 2x canisters all pipes are fitted on ok and in good condition, Now the weather is warmer im getting the code pretty much everyday tends to be when the engine is hot! before the light comes on the boost is ok. Ive also pulled the brake vacuum hose off and it hisses with air.
One thing to note ive got the dreaded actuator rattle but its not too bad but i dont know how long its been like this as ive not long brought the car ,does this rattle slowly over time damage the wastegates internally ? if anyone can help that would be great! or if anyone knows of some other vacuum pipes that fail . |

Boost solenoids? If so they are about £80 each or thereabouts.

One of the most common causes of 30FF , I have the same code and about to change mine at the weekend.

Ive had alittle search on N54tech.com, looks like it could point too worn wastegates which explain the nosy actuators/wastegates in the morning as they wont be seating shut properly. They have got louder by the week. Ive read a DIY on adjusting the actuator rods shorter too take up the slack which could be causing the low boost as they are getting stuck open , makes sense as my car can be laggy with slow spool up, normally i get this engine light when it gets laggy, if the boost isn't there then it will flag up the code.
Heres a link if anyone is interested http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showth...ight=wastegate Last edited by 335iPaul27; 04-25-2013 at 05:33 PM. |

Been messing about with it for too long, changed plugs, bought a AA charge pipe and BOV hoping to cure it but, it still there, hopefully solenoids will sort it once and for all.

I adjusted my actuator rod for the rear turbo today, it had so much play it was unbelievable, there's no way boost pressure was going to fully operate it properly, i gave it 4 turns and refitted, it was complete bastard to do by the way but well worth it. The car spools up much quicker and absolutely flys!

Has adjusting the actuator fixed your rattle? How long did it take?

Hi, it hasn't stopped the rattling but has cured the low boost code, you won't be able to stop the rattle unless you modify the waste gate arm, its the side to side play thats causing the noise, on the 2007 onwards it looks like they have put brass spacer between the arm to stop this or they have redesigned it altogether.

From the top have feel down for the actuator arm and push it in and out, you get an idea of how much play there is untill the actual diaphragm inside moves in and out, when i first pushed mine in it was super stiff almost like i free'd something up inside the actuator , i took it out for a drive and it felt much better, i still adjusted the rod as this is what i planned to do anyway. Fingers crossed it be ok.

I'm starting to think that the best way to sort this out is just to get a really loud induction kit to drown out the rattle.
