Clutch Advice ? N54 335xi

For the first time in 120,000 miles, it was very cold out and my clutch started to slip a little in 6th gear when the boost kicked in.....once it slipped, it then was fine. Did it again the other day for a second and then was grabbed fine.

Okay....looking to try and figure out which clutch is for me and I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on extra performance that I will never use, however I don't want to replace another clutch in a long time.

I don't race, I don't track, which is probably whey the original clutch made it to 120k, with about 1/2 of those miles with JB4, meth, etc..

Any clutch advice?

Anyone have a person in MA that can do the work with my assistance?

I even just had a few 2FbF codes the last week....LOL, when it rains it pours. I just picked up my replacement HPFP today and will tackle that before I tackle the clutch.

Im not sure if they have one or not I know you can get it resurfaced or buy a new one. When the time comes I will probably get a new one with that clutch either stage 1 or 2 hpf

You may find the Spec clutch stage 1 will fit your needs. It's not aggressive like the other cluthes but it will handle the extra power you have.

Buy a new one don't risk it.
You can get a bmw oem one for ~800-900.
Or LuK makes a oem one as well that I got for around 450.
You can see the two on ecstunings site. I was able to order the luk at a local Carquest cheaper than ecstuning.

I resurfaced my flywheel. I have had ACT organic, and 6 puck. I liked the engagement of ACT better (Harder pedal feel). I have the HPF clutch now, it hold better power. But pedal feel is more like stock.

How far are you from TMS? The know BMWs but they're install prices might be high...

I would recommend Banchwerks in Providence for the install. I get all my work done there. Very reasonable prices and great quality.

Did Banchwerks do your clutch Envuks?

Who installed your downpipes? Can you shoot me a rough idea of what they have done and a ball park price?

get a new FW... Luk was the OE in my car. My FW was shot at 75k when I pulled it... probably was bad way before then. 1 side lost its springiness, but still worked fine. I went with steel SM

I'm also probably going to be looking into a clutch if mine dies soon. My goals would be handling more power while retaining a stock feel. Ideally i'd like it to handle my current power levels and more if I mod the car more. I definitey don't want the engagement point to be right at the floor though... I also wouldn't want a ridiculously stiff clutch. HPF feramic seems extremely nice but pretty expensive

Haha yea I'm gonna do some more research this weekend and i'll let you know if I come up with anything. Jeff recommended spec and i've heard great things about the Spec stage 2's but don't remember what people were saying regarding pedal feel, engagement, etc...

Banchwerks quoted me the Spec stage 2 and either an aluminum or steel flywheel system.

I haven't done a clutch on my e92, but they did a clutch for me on my old stg 3 A4. They did do my DPs and coilovers on the e92 though.

My neighbor quoted me $500 to do the job and he doesn't mind me watching/helping...more like standing there with a beer in my hand watching from under the lift....

He's done BMW clutches before, along with even working on NSX's...as he is a former Acura mechanic.

I'll get my clutch done up within 2 weeks and post a lot of pictures and write up. Still trying to figure out what system to install!!!

I have a Spec Stage 3+ clutch and their new steel flywheel being installed this coming weekend in my XI.. I could let you know how it is once I am through breaking it in. My clutch finally died after 108,XXX miles. lol

I will also write a review once I get it all broken in.

Guess your clutch failed a little earlier than mine due to your tune being Cobb.....LOL......kidding, I bet your cobb was only on for 20,000 miles!

Why were your reasons for going with the 3+........and what is the "new" steel flywheel...is it dual mass?

Cobb was in the car for 64,000 of the miles.. The clutch is holding up and I still drive the car daily, it just isn't happy at all when I get on it with my 50/50 mix of e85.
