F30 Service Loaner

Just took my 1st drive in a F30 service loaner, while my E90 was in for the recall......

I will never by an F30. Steering is really bad, even worse than my wife's benz. The 4 cyl - felt like I was driving a go kart!. When I came to a complete stop the engine shuts off. Take my foot off the brake and it hiccups and re-starts.

There is no question - BMW has decided to build for the mass market.

My E90 rides so much better. This will be my last BMW, unless they make some positive changes....which I don't think will happen.

Ken

maybe its because you're really bias.

your missing your opinion about styling, interior design, comfort, gas mileage, features, etc.

Yes, these are all very important things to people who don't buy BMW's.

The only problem is, BMW is outclassed on every single one of those things by competing manufacturers - especially Audi and Mercedes.

The best thing BMW has going for it is it's amazing driving feel, which is now gone.

I had an F30 328 xdrive loaner recently as well. Pros: got used to the styling and the interior quickly. the dash looks quirky but you get used to it (with the nav system the way it is). I liked a little more room inside as well. It was also a way softer ride (i didnt like this). Steering wasn't horrible and is probably something I could live with. The engine is what kills the 328 for me though. On paper the N20 is better in every conceivable way compared to the N52, but it lacks the emotion, the sound, and in the NVH dept it was awful.

If I were to buy an F30 it would be a 335 for sure. However, my next car will be a 2019 M4 for my 30th birthday, and I'm thinking that the X4 would make a nice winter car at that point.

Does seem a bit biased, but deep down, people don't want to admit their car is outdated...

See, this doesn't work because there are a lot of brand new car owners like me going through the same thing.

I'm going through BMW trade assist and basically have my pick of cars under 60k. I've been driving a F30 loaner for a month and I just don't like it enough to lease for three years. I'm going to go with something from the older platform probably, either a 335 x drive coupe or a X1.

I agree completely, although I have yet to drive one with Sport Package, so I will hold out final judgement for now. But even base model, the E90 still had admirable driving dynamics compared to everything else on the road. The F30 base drives like a Camry.

Love the tech and features available on the F-series. Styling is a mixed bag...I would only consider the M-sport package if I were to buy an F30.

I hope the F3x M doesn't disappoint.

Had one for a week or so while my e90 335 was in the shop getting its turbos replaced. I liked it, except the steering, brakes and general Camry feel. I can't say either way since a base 328i can't be compared to a sport 335.

An unfortunate change

I totally agree! I drive a 2011 328i and have driven the F30 service loaner a couple of times and the driving experience for me is night and day. The F30 has lost its heritage. Like others have mentioned, the steering (now electric based) has no feel really, and the suspension is quite soft. Lastly, that beautiful in-line 6 cylinder sound is gone. It felt like I was driving my wife's Lexus.
