Hennessey Venom GT 0-300km World Record Run

I don't get how this a a stock production car... Beside the fact that it started out as a lotus.. To me it seems more like a kit car.

What are some of your thoughts?

It is not a kit car. It is a production car at the same level as a Alpina, RUF or Brabus. Plus, I think Hennessey don't even take the Lotus Chassis. Or they take it and change it completely. (Not sure about this).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Production_vehicle So it is a production car.

Also, it is funny how they didn't go for the 0-300-0 like Koenigsegg, knowing they couldn't beat them.

Its a lotus frame/unibody.... The only other thing that is lotus on it it the windshield and doors. When they actually insure it it has a lotus VIN # from what I read online.. So basically I could take a rx7 uni body and stick a big chevy motor in it and redo the body and call it my car that I produce??? That's why I don't get this car... They basically take a 40k car stick a LS9 in it and stick a custom carbon fiber body in it and call it their car.. Its a quick way to get around them actually building a chassis and getting by all the testing that is required by the fed government regulations..

I don't know, it just doesn't seem right. That and they sell these things for 1 million dollars... To each their own though. If they can make a buck on it without another car company suing them then go for it.

On a side note, that thing seems amazing (in a straight line anyways). I'd like to see how this thing compares to the super cars it's compared to in the turns..

It seems like a crazy car... But when taking the VIN/title to the insurance it's just a million dollar lotus.... Just think if you wreak it... You totaled your car, here is 40k! But I paid 1 million for it.. lol

I'm sure there is something special that can be done to insure it to its full amount.

If I care about going so fast in straight line, I'd signed up to learn how to fly already.

Average acceleration is between 6-7 m/s^2 so technically your almost there haha. I wonder how much longer its going to take before a car can accelerate at the same rate as gravity.

Regardless, this is not an LS9, it's an LS7 (Chevy 7.0L) twin turbo. Whether it be a lotus or not, its a sick car with a ton of engineering. In order to break the record it must be a production car therefore it has to be treated as it's own entity I guess.

They are thanking each other as if they had gotten a nobel prize or something. Great speed, great achievement but just an insanely tuned car off an existing platform. Hence the section where it is featured i guess. They should maybe chill a bit about it and wait with the claps until they have developed an own car from scratch like Koenigsegg and the likes.

Couldnt agree more to this Youtube comment

There is a new model that will have the $5,000,000 option to add wings and a joystick.

It is insane though to accelerate like it does. Just think if it could pick up speed like the planes on aircraft carriers, even though that I think is not that far off.

I agree with you it's a custom built kit car. It's fast and awesome but expensive and I'm sure not very reliable.

I agree with this and would like to add that I would rather build my own SuperLite SLC kit car, same power plant options that Hennessy uses; probably not as light but still crazy fast for around 1/10 the cost of a Hennessy venom gt.

Agreed. It's not truly a production car. And it's highly overpriced.

Yeah my father and I are actually gathering pieces to build this GTM Supercar.

https://www.factoryfive.com/galleries/gtm-supercar/

We already found a rear end totaled Z06 to use as a donor car for the motor and wiring harness and brakes. Just waiting till I get back to the states to start the project.

There is a Col here in Stuttgart that has a Factory Five of a Shelby Cobra. At first I thought it was the real Cobra until I saw the Factory Five emblem up front.

Isn't the AMS ALpha 12 faster? And there are more of them out there as well.

Yes, just insure it with state-farm. Although at a miniscule level compared to the venom... I insured all my mods with state-farm... they took photos, and checked receipts. No reason why you couldn't do that with this car. Premiums would be slightly higher though.
