Is it just me, or does DS never grab 6th gear, even when cruising on the highway?

This is probably the main reason I don't use it often. I like the more aggressive shifting and higher revs, but it should eventually take the highest gear after the speed has been consistent. Otherwise you need to shift back to D or manually shift to 6th to achieve cruising economy.

Mostly DS.....I just need to remind myself to manually shift up to 6th gear when I get on the highway........its easy to forget and on several occasions my highway commute home was in 5th gear.

No offense to other 328 drivers, I just don't like this guys comment. Sounds like a grump and I'm glad you pay for your own gas now, growing up!
Aww… did I offend you by pointing out what an auto slush box really does?

But seriously, take it easy. Why would a stranger's (me) driving habit upset you. Cherish the fact that you drive a 335 and I don't.

Mostly Drive simply in "D". I usually run "DS" when Im in a good mood. Or when Im chasing someone down. LOL. Too much gas consumption for my liking to drive all day in "DS".

this.

Other than hating the Auto mode, I have the euro M3 cluster in my 335i so whenever Im in D or Ds mode, it shows the yellow sprocket sign in the middle of my cluster as if there was a gearbox problem, because SMG M3's dont have D or DS but perfectly shows the number of the gear your running in manual mode without a problem, as if you're driving an SMG M3. Thats one more reason as why I stay in manual mode.

80% M
20% D (bad weather, boring city driving, etc).

No point in DS, its not fun, its not fuel efficient, its useless.

Almost always D, when I need to have that extra response, DS. When making a pass on a two lane road, Manual

~90% D
8% DS
2% M

Any difference between DS and Manual modes?
Does DS do up/down shifting automatically? I know Manual mode will only do downshifting.

……..but manually shifting is not the same as manually D/S shifting….if you want the best sporting drive and response slide the shifter over to D/S and then manually shift.

rpm revs higher before shifting (by itself) gears so you essentially get the car to be more torqy

60% D
20% DS
20% DS with paddles

Do any of you downshift while slowing the car down or do you allow the car to downshift itself when it hits minimum revs?

You need to downshift to stay in the power band. The auto downshift is very conservative, and gets you in under-rev when you are hitting the gas mid-corner.

Now for stopping at a redlight I just let it do its stuff. I used to downshift it like a manual, but its pointless.

M should have been a choice in the poll! I go 100% M all the time. Better throttle response and I like the engine braking. D is too sluggish and in DS the shift points are too high for general driving around. My wife drives the car occasionally so a manual was not an option.
