Dropped E90 - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

Ive been thinking about dropping my E90 about an inch. Just so it hugs the tires at the top.

Anyone have experience, recommendations with dropping their E90? Or what you prefer to use?
Im a bit lost here and I don't want to ruin anything. Haha

something like the H&R touring cup kit which includes both struts and springs.

I believe koni and eibach make similiar products.

Will also depend if you are on OEM regular OR OEM sport suspension, and if you have a AWD or RWD car. Those factors + how much you really want to drop your car will tell you which setup to go with.

I am also looking into lowering my sport-suspension e90 down... leaning towards the above H&R kit.

Wouldn't that ruin the struts or w/e? That's wha I've heard

If you get springs, you should get new struts too otherwise you can wear your oem ones faster. Otherwise get some some coils - lots of options, KW's are very popular and I have those on my XI.

Great drop, and much better ride than stock

i know people that have been running sport springs for over 3 years with no problem, but if you are worried about them or track the car get coilovers or a cup kit

lowering springs without properly matched struts can/will ruin the struts.

The OEM struts are quality, and arent just going to "blow out" after slapping in some lowering springs.

What wears them out is after months or years of driving the car, the struts will wear out and become bouncy. This is dependant upon driving style.

You MIGHT be able to get away with NOT repalcing the struts..

but in the end, suspension is a WEAR part, and "improperly" modding your suspension - i.e. springs and no struts, will just wear your struts out even faster.

H&R Springs ride like crap compared to oem, its extremely bouncy. Honestly I would save and just get ST Coilovers, do it right the first time.

my e90 went from a set of sports suspension springs to Eibach Pro-Kit. To me, they're not bouncy but provide a pretty good handling and ride quality.

i'm used to stiffer suspensions so for some, sports suspension may have be a little harsh for some.

anyway, it didn't really seem the Pro-Kit's drop was too different from sports suspension but i've got just the right amount of wheel gap so i'm not tucked but not rollin' like a 4x4.

The springs are too bouncy because they are not properly damped. The factory struts have marginal damping for even the factory springs so adding lowering springs from hr or eibach which have higher spring rates will result in a bouncier ride. This is another reason to upgrade springs and struts at the same time.

I am going to lower soon as well. I think Im gona go with just springs for now though. Then later when my struts go bad after a couple of years or so i will get coils.

lowering springs is your best bet, although i would only recommend a full coilover setup due to your stock struts being put under to much stress with the lowering springs causing them to blow premature
