Good morning

4 weeks into my ownership of the 335d coupe and I'm loving it. A complete contrast from my 123d coupe.

Just quick question, I'm currently running the 19" 230 style wheel and the rear tyres are almost wasted.

In my garage I have a set of 18" 261 style wheels (from the 123d) with new F1 Assym 2 tyres on them. Will these fit ok ? ( I do realise the TPS light will be on the dash as they don't have the sensors on.) I can live with that, and then when the F1's had expired, the 18" will become my winter wheels and I'll stick new rubber on the 230s for the summer.

Don't know about the wheel fitment, but UK spec Tyre pressure monitoring doesn't use any wheel or valve based sensors - it's done purely on changes in rolling radius/speed of the wheel - unlike the US which uses active sensors.

Hi Sheps, guess I'll have to give it a whirl and see if they fit.

My valve's are huge metal ones, and I was told these have sensors in them ? I'll do a reset one the new wheels are on and see what happens !

Wheels should fit but may need spacers to get them out - and without spacers the front may foul the suspension... but only one way to be sure (to be sure to be sure).

Sheps is correct - that's just an alloy valve, no sensor. If I were you I would change the valve to a conventional rubber one, those alloy valves have a tendency to corrode and leak over time...

Possibly. Your 1 series fronts will be either 7.5" or 8", either way probably a fairly high offset (in the region of 40 to 45 at a guess).

The 216 was available in standard 3 series staggered sizes, i.e. 8" ET34 front and 8.5" ET37 rear.

So if your 1 series front is an 8" with an ET of 45, then it'll be 11mm closer to the suspension strut than the 8" ET34 wheel.

If you put your hand on the top of your front tyre, and then reach back a bit further, how much clearance is there between the tyre shoulder and the suspension strut?

Or go have a look at the 1 series fronts and tell me what width and offset they are (offset will be an IS number, something like 8J x 18 EH2 IS40).

I've looked at the 261 wheels on the inside and they are as follows:

Fronts > 7 1/2 Jx18 EH2+ IS49

Rears > 8 1/2 Jx18 EH2+ IS52

7.5 with ET49 is going to be close but i reckon you'd be okay.

Although now i'm looking at your rears too - is there 15mm extra clearance behind your existing rear wheels?
You're going from 8.5 to 8.5, but ET37 to ET52.

Yep, you need to put your hand over and behind both front and rear wheels. You'll need at least 9mm up front and 15mm at the rear to not touch the suspension.

Ideally you need a complete set of 20mm spacers...

I assuming that if I need spacers I will need new bolts ?

Weirdly if you do sell the 261s i may be interested!

I've got 313s on my 130i and i'd rather sell it with 261s or 208s and then sell the 313s separately.

I think 20mm spacers would have their own bolts to attach to the hub, and then you'd bolt your wheels to the spacers. OR you'd need bolts which are 20mm longer...
Spacers around £50 a pair, long bolts around £1 each?

The other issue besides spacers, do you really want to go down to a 7.5" front rim on a 335d?
