I am considering this mod as the wheel spin I get everytime I try to pull away fast, is driving me mad. I know you will all say its cheaper to change to non runflat tyres and I have done that before with my 135i but I want to stay with runflats on this car AND I have just sent loads of money on 2 new rears

So how much of a difference will the LSD make ? I even get wheel spin at motorway speeds if I accellerate hard to overtake, if it wet.

Quaife ATB makes a HUGE difference, way more difference than changing to non-runflats.
Yes it's a bit more money than a set of tyres, but if you get it fitted by Bird's then it's got a lifetime warranty on it and it'll pay for itself in enjoyment on dry roads and safety on wet and/or cold roads.

I've got one in my 130i which i'm about to sell, i'm trying to decide whether to keep it for the 330i or just buy another 1 for the 330i!

Mine was around £1200 fitted (£850 for the part, plus labour plus VAT).

what settings are you driving the car with at the moment?

1. Traction control fully on
2. "partly" on i.e 1 short press of the DTC button
3. Fully off i.e 1 long press of the DTC button

This is the very reason I had the LSD fitted with-in a few weeks of getting my 335. The traction is now much better, and when we had the snow/ice recently it made doing donuts in a empty car park very good fun

Still it's not cheap, only you can decided if its worth spending a £2K+. I recently sold my JB4 tune because I realised 300bhp is more han enough for me, and in retrospect I don't think I would go for Downpipes/Intercooler again either. But the LSD is one mod I would happily pay for again

I would love an LSD, but I don't think I can justify the price.

However, I can't say that I've ever been in a 335d which has one, so I'm unable to compare the gains for the money.

For me, my thinking is:
- £300/£350 for a remap
- £2k for an LSD

Which one would my car gain the most from? I guess if I had the money I would most likely do both..

I would think you're better getting the LSD first because if your getting annoyed with wheelspin when pulling away now, it will be worse with the extra torque and BHP of a remap

Remap is going to give you the most bang for buck but only in the dry. LSD will make the most difference to how the car feels in the wet/cold. I am due for new rears (although they are well more than legal) but recently it is wheelspin city. I got embarrased by a Scooby STI in front of me round the twisties as out of every corner he dissapeared and I just sat there wiggling about trying to get the power down. I think would have been a different story in the summer or if I had an LSD.

I think you can get a Wavetrack LSD fitted for much less than £2k but I'm not sure what reviews they get.

An LSD is great at curing the spinning one wheel problem and increase traction but on worn tyres and/or poor surfaces you will still find yourself spinning up the rears albeit with more control. I have 275 rear profile Michelin Pilot Supersports, an m3 LSD and full m3 rear arms/bushes and still can have the yellow light flashing like mad in a straight line at high speeds.

The reason I have fell so in love with my M3 is because of the diff. It's immense.

Get a LSD, you will love it!

Horrible feeling that, the way it reigns in the car is horrible. I just manage the wheel spin myself, far more fun and quicker too.

Totally agree with you, but it is difficult with the way the 335i delivers its power with the JB4.

Thanks for the comments. I think I will be pushing the button on this within the next few weeks. I will let you know what I think when I have had a play. In my 135i with over 400BHP it helped but the torque in the diesel is soo much greater, so I hope it gets hold of that alot better than without the LSD.

Oh yes, I only have traction contol on in the wet. When it's dry it completely off all the time

I've just put some new Goodyear Eagle asymmetric 2's on the back and they may as well be £60 budget tyres because that's what they feel like. The wheel spinning is seriously destroying my love for the car, my e46 m3 was so much better.
Will a Wavetrak or Birds diff really make a big enough difference, to stop me putting it back to standard and selling up???

Mate, a LSD will transform the car, it's what's serious lacking in 335's

I have it in my 335i and I really don't have a problem with wheel spin at all. I also have run flat tyres PS2's which I think are great, bridgestone runflats are probably the worst tyre I have ever had on a car but the PS2's are probably the best. I would deffinately recommend spending some money at Birds Autos I know not everyone agrees this is the best cost option but they have transformed my car's handling, now if I can sort out the engine/ecu issue I will be sorted.
