Why not just buy a 5k e36 m3 and get all bolt ons and you will be eating your friends car alive.

I do like all the 3 series coupe models however I also want the car to be up to date with luxuries as well. I have thought about buying an e36 but the interior is too out of date for my liking

You'd be gaining 50hp AT MOST the g37 has 330hp. But you are 300 lbs lighter so it'd be a good race once you're all done.

It looks good for its year but that whole black plastic all over the dash and center console is definitely outdated.

Let's not discourage the OP from doing what he wants to do, if he doesn't want to take our advice then we should guide him the right direction.

To the OP here's some advice, not worth the money to do everything you want to do on these NA engines. But if you have deep pockets then alright, I will tell you everything you would want to know.

AA Tune
AA Exhaust (New One)
MMW Headers
3 Stage Intake Manifold
Simota V2 Intake or BMW Performance Intake

If you really got deep pockets then you should do a whole complete engine rebuild with all performance everything!

I think the older 3 series models handled better for I upgraded from an e46 325ci to my current 328i I felt more confident in the corners with the e46

uhh put the money you'd invest in headers and performance intake into something more beneficial (do some suspension work IMO or lighter wheels) and just out drive your friend Straight line stuff is no funny anyways

I do like the e36 looks

I wonder what my 128i would do vs a similarly equipped e36 m3...

I have the equivalent to every modification listed minus the muffler. While my car is "quick" id get beat easily by a g37. You're better off taking the $8k in mods and getting a 335i, e46 m3, or project car. I gave up on making this car faster and started building a turbo e30.

no matter what you do, or how much you spend your not going to ever get 335 type stright line performance out a 325/328/330 so if thats what you want buy something else. or start a lil project car......

aa tune
kn filter, char. del
headers (no cats)
muffler del & res del
3 stg IM

all that will cost you half of what suggested above and will produce 85% of the gains.

The text that I put in bold isn't entirely true, if you had enough money you can throw an S85 engine in there which would make it more powerful than a 335 in every way and there was somebody from 1-Series forum who completely rebuilt his N52 engine that produced around 340+ HP naturally. No SC or Turbo but it cost him a fortune.
