King of the Beasts

I recently returned from two weeks in South where I saw and did amazing things.

This photo was taken right after the big guy finished mating. The 8 image series is here:

http://ronscubadiver.wordpress.com/2.../lions-mating/

The entire South Africa album is here:
http://ronscubadiver.wordpress.com/category/africa/
It is diverse with many kinds of wildlife, landscapes, seascapes and an occasional street shot.

Wow, that's an amazing shot. It would be fantastic if you had caught him while smoking the obligatory cigarette........

Thank you ddk, img, El Bimmer and BigDog.

BigDog, Most of the images of animals were captured with a Nikon 70-300VR. It has been repaired by Nikon twice (once because I dropped it 6 feet) and in its present state it works better than when new. The Walking With Lions series is an exception as it was done with a 24-120 f/4 AF-S G. Most of the landscapes were shot with the 24-120 as well, including the pano. A few landscapes were done with a 20mm f/2.8, mostly used on the day at Tsitsikamma. For the wine country trip I used a 28mm f/1.8, mainly for its good low light performance in dark wine cellars.

For me the wildlife subjects are a new thing and I am very pleased at how well the images have been received.

Great shot and great series on your site. You had great light and a dream situation with the lions. Congrats.
