jerky startup + engine cuts out... any idea what the problem is?

For the past two mornings now, my car has been jerky upon start up. I can feel (what I think is) the engine bay shaking side to side. At the same time, RPMs are fluctuating between 1-1.5k. On the first morning, it eventually settled down to the usual idle of 600rpm. On the second morning, I immediately turned the car off after the jerkiness and then turned the car back on -- jerkiness was gone and car started up normally.

On both mornings, after driving for about a mile, the engine cut out and I would have to turn the car back on. The first morning, the engine cut out and I got the low coolant warning light. On the second morning, the engine cut out and I got the SES light. After this one-time cut out, the car runs fine for the rest of the day (although I think it drives/accelerates differently... but maybe that's all in my head; hard to tell when you're sitting in traffic).

Here's what has changed from my usual routine:

1. For this week only, my commute has been about 50 miles each way. The problem started on the 2nd day of my "new" commute.
2. My last major repair was replacing the DMTL pump. This repair was done 2 weeks ago.
3. About two weeks ago, I also got the car fully detailed and I know they did a very thorough job with the engine bay.

I'll take it to a mechanic asap, but in the meantime, I'm just curious if anybody has an idea as to what it is.

Hard to say without getting SES read for a code. Maybe vanos is going bad or dirty, try cleaning it.

Happened to me. Issue with dtml pump. never replaced, just released negative pressure by opening gas cap and closing. Went away since. My bet would be a faulty installation of the pump
