That's so true. It's insane how extroverts lie constantly because that's just how it works. The world ain't decent no more and everybody loves flare. Adapt or hunker down and face what type of person you are. Some people just have it in them to be a social butterfly. Nothing wrong with being an introvert. Doesn't mean you're shy or socially retarded. You could very well just not give a fuck enough to put in the effort. Relationships are driven by need. You haven't tipped the scale yet or you'd be in one.

Man, when I heard people are spreading rumors about you, I just knew you were desi and I was right. I had so much drama with desi people back in college, I just stopped hanging out with all of them. I always had a diverse group of friends and I hate it when I see same culture group of friends who don't branch out. But yea, a lot of Indian kids are known for drama and spreading rumors. My word of advice, diversify. In Atlanta, we have this club called Events and Adventures, which organizes events for singles to meet. And these are not just meet for dinner, types of events. They do a lot of outdoor activities like biking, hiking, camping, etc. Check to see if something like this is near where you live.

Cheer up man, you only have one life! I refuse to be depressed and you should choose so as well.

I've noticed that feeling "free" has more to do with where you live and how diverse your surroundings are...and the finances.

If you are a dude and surrounded by dudes all the time....odds are you are not going to be a very happy guy.

If you live in a small town and are at all different....and can't find a group that you can relate to you will be very unhappy.

There is something to be said about diversity of friends and living in a diverse society.
Deep down we are social creatures and when we are divorced from society and diversity we feel trapped in ourselves and we begin to eat our souls and well....you can go a bit crazy.

It's not fun.

OP dont throw yourself into a new situation that you are not comfortable with. It will only drive up your anxiety and if that totally new situation fails it will only discourage you more. Start with something small and work your way out from there.
