Word of advice, don't decide to rob a liquor store. Cause on your way in, you'll have a sudden change of heart, and your conscience will come into play....

There was a very interesting one last week about lying.
And they discussed that those who are depressed or feeling down tend to be very honest and very aware of their surroundings.
While those who were happy go lucky tended to "lie" more.

Puts a new view on the glass is half empty vs half full. Maybe it's an issue of perspective?
Maybe and this will sound silly and i feel bad for saying it....lie to yourself a little?
Maybe wake up and say...it's going to be a good day?

I hope this helps. And I hope you feel better soon.
That's so true. It's insane how extroverts lie constantly because that's just how it works. The world ain't decent no more and everybody loves flare. Adapt or hunker down and face what type of person you are. Some people just have it in them to be a social butterfly. Nothing wrong with being an introvert. Doesn't mean you're shy or socially retarded. You could very well just not give a fuck enough to put in the effort. Relationships are driven by need. You haven't tipped the scale yet or you'd be in one.

Hey guys,

At this point of my life I have everything but friends, girl, and happiness. I am 28yo and have a well paying job,a bmw, a house of my own and even an athletic body(go running). Most of my friends are married now, the new friends are living little far away and due to some rumor that was spreading around, they are trying to avoid me. I dated a girl last year but felt like we didn't have any connection. I am not sure if I should just date or look for that special someone to spend the rest of life. I am ready to settle down, but am looking for someone from similar ethnic background so we can form a deep connection.

Coming back to the point, I don't speak to a lot of people during daily life cuz my firm is very small & I m pretty much my own most of the times. Don't have any meeting but I occasionally talk to a colleague sitting next to me. It's because he is old and very experienced, I can't talk like buddies. Also I am the youngest in the company. I am the type of guy who would never give-up & always looking for creative ways. But right now everything seems blocked.

So here's the gist, I am depressed about nothing happening in my life. I live near NYC, and I thought I was done socializing but may be I should start again. Feel I m too old to hang with drink teen kids.

Anybody went thru same feelings? Any suggestions what I should do?
Man, when I heard people are spreading rumors about you, I just knew you were desi and I was right. I had so much drama with desi people back in college, I just stopped hanging out with all of them. I always had a diverse group of friends and I hate it when I see same culture group of friends who don't branch out. But yea, a lot of Indian kids are known for drama and spreading rumors. My word of advice, diversify. In Atlanta, we have this club called Events and Adventures, which organizes events for singles to meet. And these are not just meet for dinner, types of events. They do a lot of outdoor activities like biking, hiking, camping, etc. Check to see if something like this is near where you live.

Cheer up man, you only have one life! I refuse to be depressed and you should choose so as well.

I'd trade the F30 for an M3, you won't be sitting at home ever again. It's gonna consume every single brain cell you have. You won't be looking for friends or girls anymore. Enjoy....

I've noticed that feeling "free" has more to do with where you live and how diverse your surroundings are...and the finances.

If you are a dude and surrounded by dudes all the time....odds are you are not going to be a very happy guy.

If you live in a small town and are at all different....and can't find a group that you can relate to you will be very unhappy.

There is something to be said about diversity of friends and living in a diverse society.
Deep down we are social creatures and when we are divorced from society and diversity we feel trapped in ourselves and we begin to eat our souls and well....you can go a bit crazy.

It's not fun.

LOL @ "divorced from diversity" being the cause of his problems. People self segregate naturally because of instinct and fear of venturing outside of comfort zones.

OP dont throw yourself into a new situation that you are not comfortable with. It will only drive up your anxiety and if that totally new situation fails it will only discourage you more. Start with something small and work your way out from there.

well i work with engineers...aka 2500 dudes and 500 very handsome ladies...and let me tell you being around such a blah view....gets under my skin to the point where I had to check myself into therapy to keep myself alive.
And he said he was working in a very sausage fest environment....so i was just taking a wild ass guess...

I don't know...if you can escape into the city as often as you can and just walk around the village do it. I know the weather is shit but...just do it...simply walking getting some fresh air and being around new people may help you out?

ditto here... except i don't like picking up girls, amsterdam is a plane ticket away. nudie bars here are ok, just fed up with the general american attitude (and it's a ripoff, a lap dance here gets you the whole enchilada there)

and for the true tightwads: public domain porn

Someone once asked me what situational depression felt like.
(Situational depression is depressive state caused by an external stimulus that causes your brain to produce less serotonin and thus puts you in a depressed state. This can become an issue if the external stimulus can’t be removed and or overcome for the brain “learns” to be depressed and in a way forgets how to cope and assumes a new normal.)

I said well….imagine taking a roll of sports tape, and wrapping up your chest to the point where you can’t take a deep breath…and have someone tie you to a treadmill with a knife stuck between your shoulders and a gun to your head….all you want to do is get off the fucking thing and take a deep breath.

Depression is no joking matter, I know many good men and women who are due to circumstances beyond their control in dire emotional straights. Some eventually find salvation via the passage of time or the elimination of the stimulus that was causing them great anxiety while others just go in.

So take a moment, if someone you know is depressed or is venting about their depression. Don’t mock them. Not only is it very bad karma but you are also hurting a friend who is reaching out for help.

You sound depressed. There there now, come, tell OT all about it. We are eager and sympathetic listeners.
