I would assume because it is the fastest model of the 3 series put out by the factory. Plus everyone loves M3's, especially beating them

When you have a powerband that redlines at 8400, torque is not as important as HP.
Im well aware, in fact that was my point to some degree, but I have some disagreements.

That's why I mentioned both the peak numbers and the low numbers of the powerband and torque.....

The M3 has a consistent 250 TQ across the board, that's great, but the AVERAGE torque of the 335i is higher across the RPM range. So it will be faster by no surprise, let alone the fact that the AVERAGE WHP is higher the entire RPM range as well for an FBO N54.

I'm not sure where your information stems from, revving to 8400 RPM is meaningless without mentioning the gear and gear ratio, final drive. That would only be relevant if you included the average power per gear.

No matter how you cut the slice, the M3 has less WHP and WHTQ per gear in its powerband for racing and through the entire rpm range.

It's gearing is not short enough compared to the 335i to have any advantage.

Diesel trucks rev to 3000 RPM and put out gobs of torque, lower HP, and still pull excellent performance times. I also forgot to mention an E90 and E92 M3 weighs more then your typical 335i.

TO THE OP:

If you are AWD you will have lower numbers then the ones I mentioned.

To the OP:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=208

Mods:
ER CP + Tial BOV
ER FMIC
AFE Stage2 DCI
AR 3" catless dp
Cobb Stage2+FMIC Aggr on 94 oct gas

STock 288WHP
Tuned 383

Since it AWD, expect 85-90 WHP Gain from Stock. This is on 94 octane but I dont see it being that much advantageous to 93.

This person has good mods, and a good intake and intercooler specifically. Note 300WHTQ at 6500 RPM. (way more then an M3 would have stock).

^ So if it were the same car, hypothetically, it would be putting down, say, 370 HP

No the vehicle in that dyno is already AWD.

That is an AWD Dyno, AWD 335xi, with the mod list above. Let's not confuse HP with WHP either.

It made 383WHP.

I apologize for the stupid question however, can you elaborate and list "proper modifications" ??

I am just now starting my road to a 335i build and have read several versions of the appropriate tuning path.. I want to do it right the first time...

There are many intakes, downpipes, intercoolers, and other modifcations available for this car.

Some people go the cheap route, some go the fast route. The right combination of high quality parts will yield the best gains. You can "Get away" with cheaper stuff but it's not necessarily maximizing everything you have.

The person in that dyno may actually have more power left with a pro-tune too.

The dyno above shows what good modifications get you. Good consistent power. By no surprise Evolution Racewerks intercooler and charge pipe are great, as well as the AFE Intake. Although I would probably sub out that intake for maybe their new sealed stage 2 SI intake with scoops.

If you are looking for a specific recommendations shoot us an email and we can point you in the right direction.

I trapped 116mph with a 12.3 quarter mile time with a 335xi coupe cobb stage 2+ with 93 octane gas. Helix FMIC and AR downpipes with INJEN intake. Stock runflats.

You can probably squeeze out some power with a pro tune and possibly a different intake. Otherwise the downpipes and intercooler are great as well as the Cobb.

How many miles on the car? Over 40K miles? You may want to look into an intake valve cleaning?

How old are the spark plugs? Over 25K miles? May want to change those too.

Sure, but most just use map 5 which will autotune for you on the road.

How much does a protune usually run for the cobb? Also- what does it do in terms of power? More than stage 2 aggressive? Last question... Can I get anywhere near stage 2 aggressive using a protune w my listed mods if I want to run 91 in cali? The tune bug bit (again)

How close to acurate would you say the virtual dyno is compared to going and get an actual dyno? I have e92 coupe over 50k miles running e30 map from Cobb. So I have FBO w/ stock exhaust, added 5.6gals of e85 and rest with 91 oct. Did 3rd gear pull and the VD says I have 397whp and 486wtq. Those are exciting numbers if true.

HP and Torque are increased quite a bit. Search and you will find plenty of posts.
