Same here
I walked to my car and I putted the key in and had electricity for 2 seconds and then no electricity at all. No lights, no doors, nothing. Tried to jumpstart it, nothing. So its not the battery or alternator. The battery cable is not bolted to the fuse box but simply clipped in. Gladly its a recall. For my situation, it damaged the power distributor unit, they simply fixed it, still free of charge. I want to know do, does someone know if BMW have a policy for the towing fees when you ship the car for a recall, and also a policy for the expenses of not having my car ? Thanks |

I got my letter Saturday, and took my car in today and had the work done. When I sat down in the car after picking the car up at the dealer, I had a warning that the time was set to 0 and needed reset. Not thinking anything of it (because they disconnected the battery I'm assuming), I reset the time on the car, cleared the error and went about my business and drove away. When I got back in the car after work, the same exact error code, and my clock had again been reset to 0. Now I'm wondering how in the #$#% the technician didn't catch this because I'm willing to bet he noticed it and they just parked my car and called it done regardless. Any ideas what could be causing this issue? I won't be able to take my car in the rest of this week, but I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow. Was hoping this would be a simple fix I could do myself. Basically every time the car is powered off the clock is reset and showing as not set at all.

Mine was doing the same thing. I check the idrive screen for the warnings and the message I got was that the battery was discharging rapidly, to please reset the clock and contact the dealer if it happened again. Hope this helps!

So basically they F'd something up with this fix? I'm going to attempt to take the car in tomorrow but this is becoming a pain in the butt. I don't have I-drive version but your explanation makes sense.

By looking at your photo you can see the exclamation sign next to P. There is a way you can access those messages but I am not familiar with cars without Idrive.

Just an update to this....after having the problem described above yesterday, this morning it seems to have went away. The first start this morning I got the message again and my clock was reset, but each start since them (4 in total today) I no longer got the warning and my time appears to be holding and not resetting. Anybody have any clues as to why this problem would just go away? I've been reading that these car batteries are finicky and any disconnecting/reconnecting can cause issues, so I'm just wondering if somehow they temporarily drained my battery during the recall fix and now that it has fully recharged as the car has ran for a bit since then this issue somehow went away. Just curious if anyone has any ideas, but otherwise I'm going to just keep driving the car as if nothing ever happened unless the issue pops back up

Okay, so is this only going on in the States or are they also gonna announce it in Europe?

I dropped my car off this morning for the recall. Didn't need a letter or anything. They said I can pick it up later today.
I got an F10 550i M sport w/ 126 miles on it as a loaner. ![]()

I'm scheduled for next week. I've had some of these same intermittent electrical "ghosts" recently:
- clock resets to zero - doors won't unlock with key fob - idling car just decides to turn itself off The service manager tried to downplay the recall's relationship to these issues, but it seems to me, from descriptions of the problem, that it could definitely manifest itself in intermittent electrical ghosts. I'm hoping the recall fixes these problems, but I'm also betting that the dealer will produce a laundry list of other "things" that will have to be fixed as well. |

I picked my car up from the dealer, the recall work is done. It's nice not to have to worry about any issues ... (not that I had any).

Took my car in for service (vacuum leak) and they performed the recall while they had the car. The paperwork says 'install the repair cable for positive battery cable' and also says 'junction box not necessary.' Part number is listed as '61-12-9-312-133'
Never had any electrical issues with the car.

no letter here either but I asked today and was told my car is covered, will make an appointment soon. would like them to check out #6 spark plug and also might as well do a mid-interval oil change. Dammit now I have to clean my interior (my theory is that clean cars get treated more carefully) and uninstall my AP...

I brought my car in this week for brake fluid service and my CA told me about the recall. Took care of it at the service. I did not received any type of letter from BMWNA.
