Cause of dead battery?

The last time I had my car in for service was to take care of this recall ( about a couple months ago). Just yesterday I had all sorts of electrical problems, car couldn't start, had it towed to the dealership (still in the shop) and they told me it is likely a dead battery. However, the car is less than 3 years old, seems a little soon. Does anyone think there would be a correlation?

I had the same issue, had the recall done and a month later car couldnt start and dealer says terminal 15 was on which means i had the key in and it drained the battery. Total BS as i have CA and always lock the car when i park. Never had low warning signs and all of a sudden this happens. Car is only 2 yrs with 12k miles, with CA. I'm out $800 now for a new battery + diagnostic fee. Will bring this to BMWNA but seems that it is a uphill battle reading from other forummers who had battery replaced out of pocket.

Oh man! They told me the lights were left on! I told him... they are automatic...Then he said the the halo lights were on, and that was normal. So sounds like he/they don't what the deal is yet. I had no warning either When I tried to jump it before I took it to the dealership, the car's interior/exterior lights were flickering, windshield wipers were going seemed so weird. Do those sound like symptoms of a dead battery? Oh well, see on Monday I guess when I pick it up.

Does the dealer need to remove the cupholder? I noticed after they fix the cable issue, my cup holder broke.

Which one? The one closest to the driver? Mine is broken too, I'm having them fix it while it's in the shop for the dead battery issue I mentioned in the previous post. The one on the far right is still OK. Let me know if your battery dies in the next month or two without warning. But the cupholder thing may just be a coincidence.

Yea the one closest to driver. I actually opened it up and fixed the cupholder myself. I guess they didn't put it back correctly.

2007 and up only?? Why do i feel like they always forget about the 2006 E90s (325i, 330i). I believe the 06s fresh off the assembly line has the most problems

Had my recall done. When I got the car I had the Increased Battery Drain error on display. Knowing that they probably didnt charge the battery while they were doing this recall, I drove home (40 mile). Two days later the issue went away, as expected.

Hopefully that will be the end of that.

No. They only swap the connecter out at the other end (JBE).

The problem is that the old connector from the battery positive cable to the JBE was press-fit, and had problems with intermittent contact, likely due to electrical and mechanical wear with vibration. That could lead to high resistance at the contacts and thus electrical cutout or possibly even fire.

They replace that connector with one that tightens with a set screw so as to be more resilient to thermal cycling, vibration, etc etc.

They don't touch anything at the other (battery) end of the cable.

Hmm, there is the possibility they remove it while doing the work, but I don't think they do.

This happened to me on 2006 E90 325i. The positive battery cable connector terminal is at the bottom of the battery compartment, a very stupid design by BMW. The cable connector corroded and just fell off. Also looks like they did not use any zinc or other sacrificial metal to prevent corrosion on the hex nuts. The bolt looks like it was shaved in half.

The positive battery cable connects to a dual terminal at the bottom of battery compartment. The left terminal is auxiliary power 6mm hex bolt, the right terminal is starter power 8mm hex bolt, both connect to another cable that runs the length of car to the fuse box in glove compartment and to the starter. Well I had water in the battery compartment that corroded the terminal and cable eyelets. There are 2 issues with this setup - the positive terminal should have never been on the bottom, and there should have been a draining hole.

I guess I'm confused as to how that's the 'bottom'. It sounds like your battery is upside down or sideways.
