just read through the comments and i noticed the price you were getting

how much are you putting down, if you don't mind my asking?

i just ordered a 2013 335i with pretty much everything ($55,xxx list price) for 4k down, 10k miles a year, for 410 a month

fyi.. depending on how much you're putting down, you can get a much better deal

if you're interested, I could give you the name of the dealer and salesman... they're in NYC but I guess they sell to people all over the country

To the OP,

I was in the same position as you back in 2011 - I was deciding between E92 328 or 335. I purchased my car and plan to keep her for 5-6 years. As such, I decided to go with 328 as it should be much more reliable in the long run. Of course, the price difference was also a factor in my decision.

Living in LA with horrible traffic, e92 328 has plenty of power for 95% of my driving. Do I miss more hp? a little (I came from G37 coupe). But at the end of the day, $6k price increase and higher chance of having costly repairs after the warranty placed me into 328. I just don't see where I could fully enjoy the extra hp.

If I was to lease with very close monthly payments, I might have chosen 335.

My $0.02

Thanks for the number comparo. I'm not putting any money down since I'm trading in a car and am a little upside down on it. I'll be paying the difference between the trade value and the payoff, effectively zeroing it out. The trade in does affect the taxes paid each month though so that's helpful. My dealer agreed to give me between 8-9% off the MSRP regardless of which vehicle I choose, but they are marking up the MF from 0.0013 to 0.0017. They told me I could either get the additional percentage off the MSRP, or I could get 6% off MSRP and pay the base MF. A little shifty IMHO but whatever, the payments are acceptable to me and the selling price is decent.

If I thought it would be possible to order a 335i the way I want it and get a payment that is acceptable, I totally would go for it. Unfortunately, I'm either relegated to going with the 328i coupe I ordered and that is already built and ready to ship, or getting something off the lot.

I work in Orange County, in some of the worst SoCal traffic around. The extra HP & braking improvements of the 335 come into play every time I need to merge or stop in tight traffic. I've have 328 loaners on occasion, and this is the first thing that I notice about them: merging onto crowded freeway does not happen with the same snap, robbing confidence just a little.

I have an E90 335i with the N55 engine and have had zero problems with the car in 14k miles and coming up on 2 years in May. I love the low-end torque of the N55 and can't imagine settling for the NA six in the 328i. It's not bad, mind you, but the N55 with the PPK is the way to go.

Hah, well I wasn't going to say that but you make a good point of course. I appreciate all the input but I'm afraid my rational side has won this battle and I'm sticking with the 328i. It'll only be a 3 year lease, after which time I can decide to either keep it or hand it back and get a 4 series. In the mean time, I'm going to enjoy the hell out of the silky smooth NA I6 - when it finally gets here!

The new 328i I drove with the turbo engine felt really quick. Almost as quick as the 335i I drive now. The 8-speed transmission really makes good use of the power and theres a gear for every situation. In a drag race, the 335 wouldn't be able to effectively start walking the 328 until after 70mph+ speeds

Not saying the 335 is a bad car.... If you are doing a lease and it is in your budget I would say get an 335, maintenance won't be as much of an issue since it is covered. I bet the car would last as long as you seem to want to keep it.
