Steering wheel airbag - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

I have to just move it out of its slot and not disconnect anything to get the steering wheel trim out. Do I need to disconnect the negative terminal if I am not actually removing connections from the steering wheel airbag.

If the airbag connector isn't unplugged you won't throw any codes with the battery connected. Though I recommend disconnecting the negative terminal just incase.

Ok is it unsafe to remove the negative terminal. Last time I did it there were sparks and also some lights that came on the dash. Also I have heard of batteries exploding v

I've unhooked the negative side of my battery probably 20 times in the process of installing/uninstalling my front seats and steering wheel airbag. I doubt you'll have a problem, just be sure to tuck the contact points away so they don't have any risk of touching without you intending for them to.

Thanks guys for the help. I got it installed but had a problem and that was that the m sport steering wheel trim didn't fit perfectly around the sides. Some of the steering wheel sticks out. Anyone got any suggestions.
