No Horn When Locking Car

Wondering why my '08 328 doesn't have any horn sound when locking it?

I RTFM and it advised that un the computer I can change the setting for that under the Key & Checkmark icon, only when I go there there's no such adjustment present.

Wondering why this would be?

Thanks!

That is how it is for all e9x's. I believe we have an alarm prewired but need to "activate" it of some sort, I forget.

Yeah it is quite sad and cheap on bmws part. You just have to add the horn and module. Super easy DIY but the kit is like 300 lol

It's about 300 for the kit from tisher and DIY is pretty easy. Also, it'll probably cost about 200-300 for the "activation" at the dealer.

Or half that if you got the retrofit coded by a coding specialist such as Detail Addicts if you're in NorCal.

It isn't a horn module. The beep when you lock the doors comes from the alarm siren. No alarm, then no beep on locking. The 2008 328 is pre-wired for the OEM alarm and you can buy that from getbmwparts.com com for around $300. Install is all snap in and plug in except for the siren/tilt sensor that goes in the driver's side wheelwell. Just remove the right rear tire and the felt inner liner and the mounting point is easily visible and accessible. The other components are a hood switch and the module and motion sensor that mounts inside the interior light on your roof behind the sunroof. My dealer charged me $100 to activate the alarm.

BMW surprises me with how some things are options and some things are standard. Usually, with keyless entry, you have some kind of beep or horn or something to indicate that you've locked/unlocked your doors. That's pretty standard on any car with keyless entry. Even shit ass Hyundai's or Kia's have this feature. Kind of irritating. Much like cup holders. I love my e91 but some things annoy me lol.

You could always get a TOYOTA and have a horn beep when locking doors.

You have a point I hate how the elite bmw owners always ignore the fact that a new kia has more tech than some of our bmws that are a year or two old..

I mean way to fucking go bmw use fiber optics in the car but can't even make an alarm standard or blue tooth????

BMW profit margins are double that of a Toyota. There must be some reason people are paying extra. They advertise themselves at a driving machine. Not a home office. I have rented Kia's but I won't buy one. Nice, utilitarian transportation. If that is all you want...awesome.

Yeah. This does seem silly & cheap of BMW and I thought it might have to do with the lack of alarm. Wanted to get answers though.

What's funny, is that the owners manual makes no mention of it being an optional feature. It's in there with all the rest of the stuff when it's explaining about the settings you can change within the onboard computer.

I particularly asked because my last 5 cars, 2 VW's (00' Jetta/'03 GTI), 2 Subies (08 Impreza/'11 Legacy), 1 honda ('00 Civic) have all beeped on lock, and all have panic buttons and horn beeps with standard keyless entry upon locking the vehicle.

Thanks very much guys. I'm glad to have found a good community of people who can answer these BMW n00b questions I have since I've only had the car 4 days.

What is the point of a car alarm? Everyone ignores them anyways.

They make mention of it (in a BMW kind of way). It's the little asterisk next to the function. On page 2 or 3, it says anything with an asterisk next to it is associated with an optional feature.

I'd like to hear my alarm go off in the middle of the night if someone was trying to rip off my wheels or anything else in the car. At the mall, gtfo but at home, tilt sensor is a must-have, esp if you park in the driveway.

Don't know if this is sarcasm, but I'll take it for what it is. Not being elitist in any way. Just saying that if a Honda, Kia, Hyundai, Toyota, whatever, in a "lesser" class than BMW, MB, Infiniti, Lexus, etc has these little features as standard, you would think the "higher" classed vehicles would at the very least have them, plus more on top of that.

Lack of cup holders or interior storage space (you can't even fit the f*cking manual leather case in the glove box for god's sake) is asinine imo, esp in today's vehicles. My e34 doesn't have cupholders, which can be overlooked. It doesn't make any chirps or beeps when the keyless entry is activated (but lights work) and the actuators are loud as f*ck so it works as a substitute. Just saying that if you're going to buy a luxury classed vehicle, it should have the standards (by today's standards).

A BMW with manual seats? Really? Might as well throw crank windows in there as well.

I filled out a survey from my dealer. One of the questions basically asked what can BMW improve on. I thought it was a nice gesture to their customers but do they really take into account what people have to say? I'm sure we're not the only ones bitching about things like this lol. Unless we are...silly americans.
