So my sister got a 2012 Porsche 911 as her first car

My not quite 16 year old sister just got a fully loaded 997 carrera with 1000 miles on the clock. Don't know what to think lol
Looks pretty hot

Won't let me upload more than one pic for whatever reason

no matter how well-off someone is, this is a bad idea. its not a matter of gender, maturity, or who deserves what, its a matter of her not being an experienced driver behind the wheel of a machine like that.

its like taking a kid shooting for the first time and instead of having them shoot a .22, you hand them a .357, something dumb is bound to happen.

My first car was 10 years old had a 100k miles, no AC, no power anything and used a quart of oil every 500 miles.
I'm not sure what kids think when they are 16 and get $100k cars?

Congrats to her on the car, I'm not one to begrudge what others do with their money…but in all seriousness, there are no sixteen y.o. drivers in this country who can handle a carrera with a brand new divers license. She should be careful if this is the first 911 she's driven, the back end will come around to greet her in a heartbeat in the wet if she's not careful. I only say this because I was once a 16 y.o. driver, and I know how they drive. Lol.

Haha '96 (i think?) Mazda 626 for myself, it had a lurch at the top of second gear that would bang you into third so hard, F1 gearbox FTW

Nice, congrats.

My first car was a Ferrari F1 car. It was made out of Lego's though, but it came with its own pit crew. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Lol its the work van to haul stuff around..

That's my question, if she starts out with this, the only thing she'll have to look forward to is Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, etc.

I will say that for being a carrera nothing drives quite like it, love the car myself.
Going to go for the clear side markers and tints for sure
Wheels are off the Turbo S I believe.

As others have said, that is way too much car for a new driver. I honestly don't know what parents are thinking when they give such cars to inexperienced drivers. Remember what happened when that kid and his friends took an E60 M5 to an air strip for high speed runs.

She's not into speeding.
To her it's just a really cute sports car.

That's a really great first car actually and I'd be happy to get my (eventual) children something like it. Let's break it down:

1. Porsches are very well made cars. They've come a long way since their troubled 80's and they lead the charts every year in initial quality and reliability.

2. A 911 is extremely safe. Because of the sheer number of parts shared between their competition cars and the base 911, many components are manufactured and tested to safety measures that far surpass those of the average consumer car. (crash and rollover testing are all top-notch)

3. Agility and accident avoidance. Reaction time can only get you so far: having a car that, in an emergency, can brake in half the distance of a Prius/SUV is a huge asset.

4. Back seats. They're cramped and uncomfortable which means that she probably won't have three or more friends trying to ride with her at all times. Most accidents caused by young people are the result of distracted driving and having fewer people in the car is proven to reduce accident rates, especially among younger drivers. This an under-appreciated facet of buying a car for a teenager.

5. A CHILD WHO IS PROUD OF THEIR CAR WILL RESPECT IT MORE AND TAKE BETTER CARE OF IT THAN A CHILD WHO GETS A BEATER.

6. Let's face it, every single production car can be used recklessly, even a neutered fucking Prius can break 100mph. If my kid is going to go 90mph on the highway, I'd much rather have them do it in a car that was engineered to do 190mph. Not some POS that's gonna fall apart.

7. The mileage ain't great, but it could be a whole lot worse.

TL;DR: I really don't like the Prius. Just my .02, so take it with a grain of salt.

Maybe she has really good grades.

Not going to hate, congrats on the car. I'm sure it's well deserved.

And what a VW bug was too lower class?

I don't know...maybe it's just me. I've had a job since I was 13.
Bought my own car with my own money when I was 18.
Paid for my own repairs and my own education.

What did all of that teach me?
Simple, when I have a bad day at the office....i can stop over and have a happy meal and smile...and at the end give my little toy to one of the kids on my way out.
