Walnut Blasting by Dealer on DI N54

E90 was missing when reaching higher RPM and sudden throttle .
Dealer saw Carbon buildup on the Intakes Valves. Performing Walnut Blasting.
Will tell the difference once get it back. Coils and Injectors are still good according to Dealer. I have 95K miles so I guess they be real bad.
Always used Octane 93 from Shell. I guess that's the issue with all DI Engines.

The type of gasoline used is irrelevant; the carbon buildup occurs on the top of the valves which is never touched by gasoline.

Wish you could've gotten photos of the valves before and after the cleaning. I bet the amount of carbon is epic. I look forward to hearing what a difference the cleaning makes.

What about engine Oil we used ?

Interesting Article

“Gasoline engines with direct injection of the fuel into the combustion chamber…suffer especially from the problem of the formation of carbon deposits…especially in the neck region of the intake valves.”
The document describes these deposits as a sticky coating of oil and fuel constituents that, once formed, serves as a base for further deposits, creating “a circular process, by which the coating thickness of the carbon deposits continuously increases.” Excessive carbon deposits “have extremely negative effects,” the patent application concludes, citing significant performance losses, sporadic ignition failures and, potentially, holes burned in the structure of the catalytic converter.

I will ask my SA if he can take some pics of the before and after.

Why even design DI Engines if they make Carbon issue worst. since the fuel never touches the intake valves the carbon keep building up with combustion, maybe thats why chevron Fuel with Techron fix the carbon buildup for non -DI Engines.

does Techron can help a DI Engine in any capacity??
