Question Brake Cleaner to Clean VANOS Solenoid?

Does anyone know if you can use non-chlorinated brake cleaner to clean the VANOS solenoids?? I ask because I have a couple of cans available and my Advance Auto was out of MAF cleaner. Thanks.

I used gasoline on my N52, it's hard to find any of those kinds of specialized cleaners here in HK.

While brake cleaner may work, to me personally I feel it's to abrasive. I would use either CRC maf or carb cleaner. I've seen them cleaned with just about any cleaner, the best I've seen was cleaned with a parts cleaner table and chems.

I know brake cleaner isn't good for any rubber/plastic parts as it disolves the oils in the material. I can't tell if internally there are any of these materials but I wouldn't risk it.

Well I ended up buying a can of the CRC MAF cleaner for $9. I should be good to go in cleaning my solenoids.
