My E90 Spare Wheel Solution!
This may or may not help others who have made the move to non runflat tyres...
I can confirm the wheel fits over my 335d front brakes so should work for the 335i too as these models carry slightly bigger brakes than the rest of the range. It consists of the following brand new parts... E60 17" Space Saver wheel - £46 from Cotswalds Continental Spare tyre 125/80/17 - £53 from Camskill Sealey 1.5 Tonne trolley jack - £22 ebay seller Draper 17mm extending wheel wrench - £7 same ebay seller Draper ratchet strap - £5 same ebay seller The wheel is the 4" one from the 5 series, on the 5 the tyre is a 135/80/17 which makes the rolling radius a chunk bigger than standard on the E90 with 18" M Sport... This is the tyre size that's standard fit on the pukka £270 E90 Space Saver kit - the BMW wheel is 3.5" for this tyre. I got in touch with Continental who confirmed the 125 tyre is suitable for the 4" rim so I went ahead and had it fitted (£5!) with no issues. I bodged the jack as it's quite bulky to make it sit in the gap under the boot... Basically took unbolted the front wheels then got the hacksaw to the back casters as they stick out a lot. (this is not ideal if you're using the jack a lot but perfect for a road side emergency - it's a lot more sturdy than any scissor jack I've ever used) The jack handle and wheel brace fit under the boot floor too with the wheel sitting at the back of the boot and going nowhere as it's secured with the ratchet strap.. So a nice reliable solution for around £140 Pics below. ![]() ![]() Any questions just ask. |

It doesn't help if I have a full blow out....
I'd of probably made do with the Holts stuff and some plugs but we're going away in a couple of weeks and it would be my luck that the whole tyre would blow out and end up missing the flight.. So that really was the driving force in having an actual spare. ebay seller for tools was Mcornik Tools or something. Used them before they're pretty good. Use DPD too which seem the best. |

I really need to get around to secure my space-saver into the boot of my e90 - liking the use of the ratchet strap. I's a tart and spend £12 on a bag for the wheel though to keep it neat and tidy looking

That's the one I bought - it fits my 17" spacer-saver perfectly and seems reasonably well made with heavy duty fabric.
