Artz, you're 1/2 correct it's broken, but not by me.

Long story short: some shop monkey at the bodyshop used the passenger cup holder (while my car was in the shop) and broke it. I want to know the process involved in taking out and replacing the cup holder, if it seems remotely complicated, I'm gonna do it myself, I don't trust those shop guys, they don't show respect for other people's properties.

So, anyone knows?

Exactly, that's what my wife used it as the 1st month we had.
I had the dealer replace mine. It took them a week to get it and about 35 minutes to replace it.

Sorry I didn't. But the SA did make reference to pulling out "part" of the dash to get to it. Have you looked on realoem to see how it's put together? Seeing that may help you decide if you want to tackle it yourself.

Pretty simple to remove/install.

1) Remove the trim piece around the cupholders. Start at the right side, then pry (I prefer to use a Craftsman rivet puller wrapped in a rag) at the two aluminum rivets that go into the blue pieces shown below. The outer clips should come off easily.

2) Unscrew whichever cupholder you want to remove.

3) When reinstalling, be sure that the tab in the back of the cupholder lines up with the recepticle on the top of the glove compartment.

Note that in the above picture, much of the dash is removed. Also, the cupholders are removed (I did this during the iPod install yesterday). You only want to remove the section below the vents, and above the glove box.

Ugh!

My cupholder came off the "rail" for the second time. Its still under warranty, but since my nearest dealer is a 1-1/2 hour round trip in traffic, I don't want to take it in. Is there really no way to gently "pop it out" without removing the dash?

Leave it to the Germans to put off installing cupholders at all, and then when they do, it is an overly complicated, Rube Goldberg-ian contraption that seems to break every three weeks. Seriously, I just want to put coffee in there!
