335xi tranny same as 335i??

My friend recently bought a used 335xi with 6mt as a project for very cheap price but it has a serious transmission problem ,,,we found entire tranny for 335i 6mt for about same price as the tranny rebuild cost but does anyone know if 335i and 335xi shares same tranny?? I know xi has transfercase but shouldn't tranny be the same??

4x4 system must have a different gearbox for the front drive shaft!
