Radio Woes and Upgrade Questions

Hello all, first post. I've spent hours reading threads on updates and issues associated with my setup but some of it seems out of date and I still had a few questions so I wanted to start my own thread.

I just bought a 2010 328i with a base stereo. Only after doing so and spending some time here did I realize the challenges associated with getting a decent upgrade for it. An additional layer to this problem is a constant buzz I get from the speakers even when the car is off that I'm guessing is related to SI B65 03 14.

An additional layer: I'm scheduled to take it in to the dealer on Friday but since I only have the CPO warranty (I bought this privately but the CPO from the previous owner is valid until next Jan.) I'm assuming they won't cover it if it's the head unit?

Here are my questions:
1. Any guess as to what the noise is? It's like a faint static with occasional electronic squeaks and pops.
2. Any chance this is covered since there's a service bulletin on it? I'm guessing no.
3. Assuming it has to be replaced, is this an opportunity to correct the EQ issues? Is that a different piece of hardware or just coding the new unit a certain way?
4. Kind of tied into the last, if I end up doing this swap myself, can I order a HiFi unit or will it still need to be coded somewhere?

Any and all feedback appreciated.

Thanks

Update:

Just heard back from the dealer who states that there is a short in the head unit and it needs to be replaced. Not covered under the CPO warranty and $900 to replace. Assuming I don't want to spend that, because I don't, what are my options and how much do they cost?

Is there any way this can be a DIY thing or am I going to end up at the dealer one way or another?

Off the shelf cost 450 from tischer (500-100 core)

You could argue because of bulletin that this was not a failure after original warranty but instead defective as from factory production this covered by original warranty.

You could get used on EBay or go aftermarket

You could get used one on EBay or go aftermarket
You would need to do a parallel mount if you want to
continue to use BMW for repair of electrical stuff or
if they insist the old one has to be in place for diags , software
updates and repair.
There are some pretty low priced ones on ebay.
You would might need someone to program if for your car
options or Hi Fi output if you want to add and amp and better
speakers.
If there really was a short I think the radio would be non functional.
