Soundbar recommendations

Hi, I am looking to upgrade my tv sound, but there are lots of options out there. Do you have any recommendations. I will be using it to listen to music so ideally
Bluetooth comparable.

B&W and Yamaha if listening to music.
Martin Logan also have one that is meant to be good, but I have not heard it, and not even sure if it is in the UK yet.

How much do you want to spend though??

Decent sounding and cheap don't go together when you are talking soundbars.
Remember you have a pre amp, power amps and multiple speakers in one cabinet, the half decent ones start around 700.

Get the best you can for the money you can afford, and try to get 5.1 if you can, the Bose and B&W are awesome but will cost close to 1000, the orbitsound T12 is a really good unit and is around 300, I have got the Samsung unit which is around 200 max I could spend but I only live in a terrace so is plenty sufficient for what I need and the wireless sub is great, and you connect phone through bluetooth as opposed to having it sit in the unit which is a pita when it rings!

Orbit sound T12 is a very good unit for the price, and doubles up as a iPod dock.

I've got the Yamaha YS-2200.
Worth a go, i like sound (nicely balance) and the hdmi switching functionality. i.e goes on and off automatically with my tv or PS3.

I've listened to a few sound bars at various mates houses and all of them have been quite disappointing. Clearly they are much better than the tiny speakers built into the new TVs, but all of them seem to struggle to create a proper sound stage and really struggle in large rooms. None I've heard offer any where near the performance of a good 5.1 system driven by a decent amp (regardless of what the advertising says).

But as already said if you want good sound its not cheap, but for 300+ you should be able to get a OK AVR + 5.1 speakers, which will produce much better sound than any soundbar at that price point.

Yeah thats the one, 220 in currys atm and it is a really good soundbar, the wireless sub makes things so much tidier!

I totally agree soundbar is not the replacemnt for proper 5.1. Personally I have an onkyo amp and a set of tannoy arena speakers. While now about 5 years old still gives brilliant sound.

Though as case of my friend shape of his lounge means setting up a 5.1 would be a pain plus speakers would not be set in ideal position not mention hassel of cables etc. Therefore a sound bar next best option than using crap tv speakers.

This is the one I'm thinking of getting..... so you recommend it? It's the wireless sub I'm after as my room layout leaves no room for a sub near the TV.

My finger hovers over the buy button on Amazon or John Lewis. I think these things are great and imagine nights in with some sci-fi epic cranked up to 11.

Then I remember why I got rid of the last cinema sound system I had. Because we have small children in the house who go to bed at 7pm and I think we got to use it about twice

Just crank it up - they soon get used to the noise. My two never wake up due to loud TV etc!

Feel for you I havent used my TV speakers inover 9 years hate the sound they produce.

I know what you mean about kids and bedtime but luckily mine had it from day one and sleep through it, the key is also getting asystem you can tune. Next amp I'm looking at actually has night mode where it can cut output to subst etc. for now I just turn the sub down when kids are a sleep but actually find I can have the actual volume lower on the 5.1 then on TV when listening to speak etc as its so much clearer
