for me it turned out to be the alternator - 550 +100 to install from independent.

Sorry to revive on older thread - but this seems to be a pretty common fault so nothing gained by starting a new one.

Today I've had exactly the same fault as described by the OP. On a 2007 335d E90 with 22.4k miles covered since new.

What's the betting I get stung for a large sum of cash as I only took out the BMW insured warranty 2 days ago and BMW don't offer me any goodwill on a part that's only lasted 22000 miles !

Hopefully it's just a sensor but I'm going to bet hydro pump etc ...



Have to say Rybrook BMW in Warwick have been superb as always after I rocked up at lunchtime today and they dropped my off to my office then got me in a loan car by 6pm tonight

See my thread - hydro pump's not the end of the world. I've just had the same fault and ECU Testing repaired my hydro (DSC/ABS) unit for 240: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=906185. This was for a 6-cyl 330i so should be same./similar costs for a 335. The 4-pots are a cheaper fix.

lot of help on here, my 325i has the same fault lights, and is out of warranty. The car seems perfectly driveable, but no traction control, cruise control or hill assist. I took it to my local garage (BMW Spires couldn't fit it in for a fortnight and wanted 100 + cat to run the diagnostics).

I got told they could repair the Hydro unit but would take 2-3 weeks and 1000+.

Look like it will wait until after Christmas now, but will find a 2nd opinion first

Can't recommend ECU Testing enough - see link in my thread two above. 240 all-in repair cost on my 2007 330i, the unit was away from me for exactly 7 days inc the weekend. Only actual difficult work is bleeding the brakes when refitting, and unfortunately you can't drive the car until they're done so you can't even refit yourself then drive to a garage for a brake bleed.

its about time bmw recalled all these cars and fixed the wheel sensors and the hydro pump problems, simply not acceptable on such an expensive car.

Hi Guys, not going to open an new thread on this as I have recently joined the ABS Hydro pump unit fail gang. ECUtesing.com are currently closed for Christmas and before I contact them I am going to check the ABS pump unit part number. I looked at the unit and the number printed on it was 3451 677 6068. Is this the only number needed for ECUtesting to determine whether or not it's a fixable unit or do I need the p/n of the electronic side of the unit as well?

BTW, I changed the original 18" wheels & RFTs to 17" non-RFT winter tyres about 4 weeks before the lights first came on and might change back to eliminate the different wheel set up. Local Indy says fault code is for the ABS Hydro pump, but will see.

Changed back to original wheels/tyres set-up and warning lights still on. Independent mechanic read the fault codes as follows:

5DF0 Hydraulic Unit: pump motor
5DF1 Hydraulic Unit: pump motor connector faulty

Will send to ECU Testing for rebuild next week. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

Unit returned from ECUtesing.com last Thurs and fitted on Friday and so far it's real good like Gielgud
Would recommend these guys.

I'm having this issue at the moment.. I didn't realise what a common occurrence it is..

I will have to wait till i get mine sorted as I am travelling soon.

Errors I get

ABS Light, DTC Light, cruise control failure and all the related idrive error descriptions.

5DF0 Hydraulic unit: pump motor
5DF1 Hydraulic unit: pump motor connector faulty

When I get back I might try some of the easy options but my Indie says that with my OBD errors and that this seems to be a common issue with 2007 models that I should get the pump repaired.

Ill keep you all posted..

I had the same with my 2007 last year, so it looks like another one of those 'when not if' things - luckily BMW extended warranty covered a replacement hydro unit.

I have a BMW E90 330i (May 2005) and just had the latest firmware update as i was having problems with my iDrive crashing. Great result the iDrive works great, much more responsive and the maps look better too.
Now for the bad bits.
While having the updates done i was told that nothing had been updated since it was manufactured so all the codes needed sorting, 6 hours worth. Anyway the next day my dash is lit up and blinging every two minutes. here is the list
DSC FAILURE
FLAT TYRE MONITOR FAILURE
CRUISE CONTROL FAILURE

These three all come up together but it is intermittent, I have had it scanned and was told that i need a new DSC HYDRAULIC PUMP very expensive but would that cause the other faults too?
About 3 days later (4th day since the update) I have had two more faults to add to the above.
DBC FAILURE
START ASSISTANT INACTIVE

now to me its seems too much of a coincidence that all this is happening after the update to warrant splashing out on parts i may not need, it could be dodgy electrics as the faults are all intermittent

Unfortunately, those errors are consistent with a DSC hydro unit failure, as is the intermittent nature of the problem. When you say you "had it scanned", who did you take it to to read out the fault codes? Did they give you the error numbers that had been stored?

before spend large amounts have the battery and alternator checked as either one not working correctly will throw up any number of errors.

my cousin used to work for BMW and now setup on his own as an independent specialist, when i see him next week i will get the codes for the faults,

everything seems to be working today even the cruise control

Sadly it wont last if you have the issue. I am several months into mine and they are now on more offten than not...

I've already had the nightmare of sending it off only to have it returned, reffitted and tested to throw up more errors.

Sadly I am now having a new unit.

It's probably spelt the end to the car because I cant have a car that can cost 2000 to fix a part that after only 61K can fail like this..

Where did you send your unit? and did they return it 'fixed' and problems continued? is it definitely the Hydro or wheel sensors as other seem mention?

I just phone my local BMW parts department, and asked about the Hydro Unit and was told 1600+VAT (part only) and 833+VAT for the repair kit!!

The interesting thing was that there was only one of each part available in the UK at the moment, which seems hard to believe with the amount of chat there is about this issue over the internet,

however he did mention that they sold a lot of rear wheel speed sensors so it may be worth exploring in my case anyway !

Mine was the full blown DSC and pump issue. Both parts foobared. You're ok if it's the DSC and the fix it places can fix those as per other posts.

My car has only done 61k and is only just 7 years old and I think the whole thing is BS!

We see shed loads of these with the 4 cylinder cars the repair kits range from 140.86 +VAT up to 186.45+VAT the big problem lies with the 6 cylinder cars where 1700ish+VAT is rather eye watering.

The ECU Testing route is one I've used before and apart from losing the car for a few days in the real scheme if things it's a far more economical way of getting the job done.

5DF0 and 5DF1 codes are fairly common there's another couple of codes that can also pop up that are on a similar line including the most common one hydraulic motor pressure sensor internal which from memory is 5DF2.

The other thing that can create hydro unit faults or contribute shall I say is the dreaded reluctor ring failure on the driveshaft where corrosion allows the ring to expand on the driveshaft, causing this to wear the wheel speed sensor away worst one I've heard is a constant clicking from outside on every wheel revolution as you can imagine that'll ensure the hydro unit will work overtime as this cars DSC was constantly on/off until it gave up the ghost.

BMW aren't the only manufacturer to suffer we've dine a couple if 3.0 Audi!'s and a few Mercedes cars again the 6 cylinder ones are serious money the Mercedes units price wise are slightly worse than the BMW's

Thing is on the older BMW you could unscrew the pressure sensors and replace both the ASC & DSC sensors in udder an hour for 220 inc VAT in parts and a bit if labour with 100% success guess this is progress for you

Just had my car in at an indy for the 3 dreaded lights. They are telling me its the pump. 1800 from BMW or about 500 - 700 reconditioned. Does that seem ok? From a quick search on here and ecu testing, seems they are about 200 reconditioned so i am a little confused.

Getting 2 faults

hydraulic pump internal fault
hydraulic pump electrical connection fault
