Turbo specs

So does anyone know what size/brand turbo we have? Or just any info on it at all? I'm trying to plan a project.

Okay so sorry to this thread is really old but I can't tell if this issue had been solved I can tell you that from this thread in the second post of the turbo picture that the stock turbo is a borg warner turbo charger.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=424535

http://www.borgwarner.com/en/News/Pr...wGasEngine.pdf

Other than seeing that its a B03 turbo I can't find specs as far as AR and compressor wheel specs or anything. I emailed Full Race to see if they could find more information since they use pretty much BW turbos exclusively.

I am actually hoping to see more upgrades come out for the N55 even though I don't have one. But I just might in the future.

Thank you! I might just send my car over to the guys at Velos Designwerks and see what they can do. I want this to atleast make 500whp without nitrous.

you have great timing YES we are absolutely giving thought to turbo kit development for this platform, and already have a game plan intended for it. We have literally been waiting on the fuel mgt options to mature before proceeding. Basically the stock turbo runs out of steam around 400hp. However it appears the stock fuel system (with the latest gen hpfp) can support 500-530whp and if you use meth-injection you can make slightly more, and safely. Now that Cobb has released AccessPort for these cars, it opens up the ability for us to properly turbocharge these engines.

I believe very strongly that BMW's change to a single *twinscroll* turbo on the N55 engine was the right decision and that is the direction we plan to go.

The single biggest hurdle for making big power is the fuel system obviously. Our thought is to match the turbo configuration to the maximum output of the stock fuel system - obviously the boost could be turned up requiring some future fueling upgrades be done, but i think if focus on what can be maximized out of the stock based footprint and tuned ECU that would go a huge step in the right direction.

This is the E-mail that Geoff at Full-Race sent me today. He was wanting to see what the community is looking into and what we would want. They sound like they are very interested in building something if we want it and if we can tell them what we want out of the motor.

I was not aware that Cobb released AccessPort for the N55. Is this true? I thought their timeframe was 1Q12.

sounds promising...as far as I know our turbo and manifold are one piece - are they willing to focus on the compressor wheel?

I'm liking this. Even if it's just talk, people will start to make it happen. I'd love a compressor wheel option. Even if it only puts me in N54 range (450+) I'll be happy. I'm a FBO n55 and haven't dynoed but probably around 380-390whp

I bet they would do compressor wheel changes and things like that. This company was big EVO people and a lot of EVO people do bbk and fp turbos which are modified stock turbo.

I will ask him about Cobb. Maybe this is new development from them. Is that what we are kinda hoping for at the moment is compressor wheel upgrades? I didn't know that the manifold was all one piece with the turbo though.

Send a message via AIM to jjurroz
the turbo is welded to the manifold just like the n54 is.

Haha I don't own either man. That is why I didn't know. I wonder if my kk series on my passat was welded.

So what kind of kit are we looking for? A full on new equal length manifold and turbo or would that not fit in the bay? I know that the log manifold setup is possible the worst kind of design for a turbo. At least for everything I ever read.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the turbo, BOV, and manifold are all one piece. Right now I'm really only looking for a compresser wheel upgrade/tune/perhaps DCT build. If that doesn't put me at 450whp, then maybe I'll consider a full BT upgrade and go for 550WHP

I am going to send Geoff the link to this three. It's not a lot but this will let him see that people are definitely looking into this. I would like to see a nice brand new kit with the car. I mean looking at the manifold being a log style manifold is just sad.

I think this engine can be really capable if someone really gets going with it. Whether it can be a 2jz or an rb26 that's another story lol. But maybe with time and work it will be.

Im sure that if they design a new manifold and a sligthly bigger turbo with FBO we can hit the 500

If you speak with Geoff at FR, ask what you can about the stock B03 turbo, such as what limits the hot side has (even generalizations). I'm interested in a compressor upgrade.

The stock n55/B03 turbo seems like it's done 50+whp sooner than the N54 TD03s with peak power seeming to come around 5000rpm even with bolt-ons. This thing needs more help than just an IC & DP.

A big turbo would be nice but the 6AT upgrade and other needed parts would put the all-in price prob $12,000+. I'd start looking at a used GTR at that point. my 2c.

thanks!
