DSC light on and button not responding. Error 5E5B

My first post, thought I would share a recent problem I encountered as when searching the forums I couldn't find a solution. I have a 2007 335i.

When starting the car the DSC light would come on for around 10 seconds and then the light would turn off. The DSC button also stopped responding so couldn't control the settings. The DSC and DTC was still actually working as it kicked in if going round a corner fast.

I scanned the ECU with an OBD tool and did not get any codes.

At this point I was worried that it would be an expensive trip to BMW.

I then got hold of an OBD2 to USB cable and the BMW INPA software. I was able to scan the DSC system with this software and got the below error every time I started the car (also attached):

5E5B - DSC push button pressed longer than 10 sec or Error.

I searched the net for this error and couldn't find out what it meant as I knew I wasn't pressing the button when starting, and "error" is not the most detailed reason.

I took the switch out and checked the cables were all plugged in ok.
