Indeed. A heavy, floaty turd is the CTS. No way the'll make the new one faster than the Vette, so any ATS/CTS at a $45k-ish price point will either be pig heavy or detuned.

Honestly, the CTS is nowhere near as large as a 5 series - E60 or F10. From an interior volume and price perspective, the current gen CTS is comparable to an F30 3 series.

Perhaps the next gen CTS will grow to be as large as an F10 5 series, but that remains to be seen.

I also just checked out an ATS at the mall. It was super cramped compared to an F30 3 series. The ATS interior felt similar in size to a 1 series interior.

Excellent! Another platform to play with. Lets see how long it takes us or someone else to get the TT V6 competing with the V...

+1
People need to sit inside these cars to give their opinions. Interior in the current CTS feels like a F30, it might feel a tad bigger in the back seat though. The F10 just feel more spacious hands down. I think the CTS sits in its own class if it wasn't being compared to the Euro's.

If this engine makes it to the ATS-V, this will be a game changer in this segment though. Not only do you have a platform that can flex and move like the 3 series, but it will also have the magnetic suspension, currently in the CTS-V and Ferrari for that matter, since they licensed it from Cadillac.

Currently a premium CTS starts around 48k and 50k for the AWD. That's pretty much the same price a 335i and xi goes for with similar options bundle together.

I don't agree though that it competes with the 1 series in size. It does feel roomier than the 1 series, maybe because it's four door. But it doesn't feel as cramped as the 135i. If BMW new 2 series is larger than the 1 series, then that would be the car it should be compared too. As of now, I think both these cars stand by themselves. The ATS is closer to the 3 series than the CTS is to the 5 series.

Heavy? I dont know how heavy it'll be. Supposedly they plan on dropping the weight a good 100lbs if not more. Anything is an improvement

If you look at both websites all interior and exterior measurements are only off by a couple inches. In the case of the E60, they are very similar. Since the 5er grew in size with the F10.

Cadillac will be at least 200 lbs heavier than the vette? and while the power numbers look similar, I speculate the V8 delivers them much earlier?

Like I said, the CTS is moving to 5-series price and size. Not a 3-series competitor in any shape or form anymore. We should see it next week at the NYC auto show.

The ATS=3, CTS=5, new Omega based sedan=7

The ATS-V will most likely have a tuned version of this engine(~440-450hp) with the CTS-V having an S/C version of the new LT1 'Vette motor(~600hp I think).

I don't think so. You have to reach 5,900 rpm to reach those 430hp and 4,600 rpm for the 424 lb-ft tq on the Vette. I see the TT's achieving this much earlier especially with a 6500 rpm redline.

I agree. We'll have to wait till the auto-show to see what they announce on the new platform.

I wouldn't feel safe tuning a FI american engine lol. Also, good luck keeping those tires planted. A 3.6L cts can't even keep its' tires planted.

Impressive motor, but a front wheel drive as standard ... not so impressive (edited - there is a RWD version too, its the XTS that is FWD).

I guess a CTS-V AWD version would be pretty sweet.
Yea the ATS and CTS are both RWD, I read the specs this morning.
If the steering is better on the ATS, I would go for that before a F30. I drove a 3 different 328's over the course of three weeks while my car was being fixed.
I hated the F30.
1. Steering is horrible and disconnected compared to an e90.
2. Suspension is not as good as my 390 with sport package, now I was not driving an M-Sport model so that does factor in.
3. Sound level on the 328 is much higher than my e90 335. It just is.
4. I felt cramped in the F30. The footwell is narrow. THe map pocket on the door encroaches on my leg/knee area. The center console is in the way.

Anyway, I'd consider the ATS as my next car.

Did I miss something or is there no intercoolers on this new Caddy motor? Fast response from turbos yes, but wow heat will build quickly if you start to mess with these.

Bringing back up this thread here. I just saw a video about this engine. One question I have is where the hell is the intercooler? Apparently GM claim they have a patented design that reduces turbo lag by shortening the distance between the turbo outlet and the intercooler

It looks like it's the two pieces with the red square ends shown at 0:59 in the video below. So the intercoolers are water heat exchangers inside the intake manifold?
